Before you even think about playing this ask yourself a few questions. Have you played Tempest before? Have you played Space Giraffe before? If the answer to either of those is yes, then ask yourself do you want to pay more money for a similar experience? Really that’s all it comes down to.

Gameplay:

In Tempest you move around a rail shooting enemies and the like to progress to the next level. Sounds simple enough and it is really although it does introduce new enemies and the fact that each levels rail is different, it is still a very simple game.

Graphics:

The Game comes with two sets of graphics, Evolved and Classic. Evolved looks fine, actually they do look nice considering how weird the game is. Classic look…. Like the old graphics (who’d have thought huh?). Although I have come into this without much experience with the original I actually preferred the original graphics. They where simpler and made it a lot easier to tell what’s going on.

Sound:

It’s hardly a treat for your ears. It sounds like the original but that’s not necessarily a good thing. Its games like these that make me think, why don’t they give sound the same treatment they give to the graphics. Retro title after retro title on the arcade has ‘updated’ or ‘enhanced’ graphics yet hardly any have improved sound effects or music, Except the menus.

Longevity:

I’m sure if you’re a fan or Space Giraffe or Tempest then you’ll find a lot of replay-ability with the amount of levels and online leaderboards, there's a lot to keep your attention for a while. But for most people and even fans of those games you’ll get bored with it pretty quickly.

Overall:

Last year, Space Giraffe came out. It was a 2007 version of tempest with some improvements and surprisingly enough the original just doesn’t compare. They should have just released some DLC for Space Giraffe in the form of these levels and modes. I could only barely recommend this to fans of the original. There just isn’t enough here to warrant the 400 points.
