Microsoft Game Studios have teamed up with Silicon Knights to present Too Human on the Xbox 360 which will be part one of a trilogy. In Too Human players are thrust into a world of Gods as they assume the role of cybernetic god Baldur. An ancient machine presence has forced the God’s hand and so Baldur is charged with defending mankind from an onslaught of monstrous war machines hell bent on the eradication of human life. However Baldur isn’t so much into the cybernetic upgrades that his fellow gods use and thus is described amongst his peers as being too human. Whether this is to Baldur’s advantage or a hindrance is up to the player to find out!
Too Human is a third person action game with a heavy emphasis on character customisation and combat. Leading hero Baldur has a vast array of weaponry to use against the monstrous hordes including customisable firearms as well as melee weapons. Players can customise their vision of Baldur to create devastating combos and powerful attacks that are in line with how players wish to play the game. Why? Well Baldur will have his work cut out as saving the human race is no small task and so will need as much power as possible if he’s to get the job done and get home in time for breakfast! Players can expect huge pitched battles with numerous characters on screen at any given time which gives rise to Baldur performing massive seamless combos against hundreds of characters. Players will be able to switch on the fly between melee and armed combat which provides much opportunity to unleash combos that can reach into the hundreds!
Baldur will by all means not be alone in the world of Too Human as their will be other powerful allies on hand to wage war against the machine hordes. Were promised a highly cinematic experience which is brought to life using the extremely good looking Unreal Engine 3 which as you probably know is also being used in games such as Gears of War. Early impressions is that Too Human looks very nice indeed despite displaying some animation problems with the demo version that was shown during this years E3, which we have been told will be fully tweaked and polished for the final game.
Another cool feature of Too Human will be its four player co-op play over Xbox 360 Live. Teaming up with 3 other human allies will no doubt create some explosive and extremely fun yet challenging battles over Live and is a feature that is very much welcome especially as players will no doubt be able to use their own customised character in battle. Co-op play will no doubt also bring into play some strategic elements especially as players will need to look after each other rather than playing as a one man army. Its great to see that Silicon Knights are placing some emphasis on Co-op play as this is really an area which has huge potential and liked by an ever increasing amount of players who prefer working together rather than the usual versus modes you come to expect from action titles.
Too Human is looking like an interesting game and with it being a trilogy it seems the heads at Microsoft aim for great things with the series. As a new IP it’s a tough campaign out there in the games marketplace especially when similar games are also on the horizon. However with the effort and pedigree of Silicon Knights behind it, Too Human could well be the smash hit that Microsoft is aiming for. I think many were left a little under whelmed by the early demo version shown at E3 this year especially in terms of the game play but I am confident that the team will be able to turn it around and make Too Human one of the “BIG” games that we all talk about once it launches at the end of this year.
