Ninja Gaiden 2 new costumes - value or rip off?
Bookmark and Share

Tecmo has unleashed some new downloadable content for its recently released action game, Ninja Gaiden 2. Whilst beating the game offers two additional costumes, which are the same as the starting outfit except in Red or Mustard; however these new costumes come with a price tag and can't be unlocked in game, no matter how ninja your skills are.

For those looking for a fresh take on slicing up enemies, then these extras will be welcome, and for some gamers well worth paying for.

There are three costume packs (Biometal, Shadow Walker, Fiend Hayabusa) costing 200 MS Points each, and contains 5 colour variations. It might be a small price to pay for some cool extras, but this was the sort of unlock that gamers could accomplish in game, and with no additional charge in previous generations.

We can understand that things like maps and modes have a case for being charged for content (despite the huge free content for games such as Ghost Recon Island Thunder on Xbox), but costumes with different paint jobs seems to stretch things a little. Either way, if you're after some cool threads for the pleasant Ryu Hayabusa, then you're going to have to get your wallets out, and the choice is entirely yours. It's certainly better than no choice at all, but so far away from being a free bonus.

Times have changed, and it's a far cry from the days when developers were rewarding gamers for spending the time to complete their games. There must be plenty of gamers out there with the disposable income which supports this Xbox 360's generation activity, hence why it seemingly flourishes. Perhaps we're becoming like old men always harping on about how things used to be?
