GTA IV pedophiles - did Rockstar go too far?
Bookmark and Share

Grand Theft Auto 4 is a ground breaking video game on a technical level, receiving high accolades across the board from gaming websites the World over. GTA 4 is squarely aimed at the mature audience (17+ age group) featuring themes of violence and of a sexual nature. Players are able to go to strip clubs, date men and women, and even pick up prostitutes for oral and full on sex.

These are pretty tame elements, and nothing we haven't seen before in previous GTA games. The real issue comes from the game's obvious attempted humor in regards to the touchy subject of pedophilia. If players visit a particular website described as a site for child beauty pageants (www.Littlelacysurprisepageant.com) using the game's in built fantasy Internet, they instantly become wanted by the in game police for viewing questionable material. Is this kind of humor a step too far on the part of Rockstar (the game developers), or should it merely be brushed off as part of the wacky nature of the game? Do we need these kinds of references in video games? What ever your morals - you decide. Just remember, the Liberty City Police Department see it and know it all!
