| A trip down memory lane with Splinter Cell |
|
Splinter Cell which was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and released in November 2002 looked like being a direct rival to the rather well established Metal Gear Solid series which has found its home on the Playstation consoles. With a new hero armed to the teeth with hi-tech gadgets and weapons, Sam Fisher was to become a well recognized character what with his trademark night vision goggles and the gameplay mechanic of having bright lights on his body that only the player could see.

Offering a heady mix of stealth and action Splinter Cell was hyped before release but proved its worth by being a solid game in its own right. Not really tied to a single platform meant that the Playstation loyal, hardened PC gamers and Xbox masses could come together and enjoy the game in all its glory. A new IP was born and one that has evolved considerably over the years. Sam is still the hero, albeit somewhat aged, and is still able to kick plenty of terrorist arse whilst looking cool doing it.
2002 seems like a long time ago, and unless you frequently take a trip down memory lane and boot up the old Xbox (if you still have one) or try the older games on your latest console then you may have forgotten those fine gaming moments that were the makings of a great and now well established franchise. Playing the game now after so many years does highlight some of the rough edges of the game which got ironed out as the series developed, but at the time there was no comparison.
Well to save you the bother of rooting through boxes in the attic or rummaging bargain bins in your local game store, we've made a video which highlights the main features of the game and provides a nostalgic look at one of the great games of last generation. Enjoy.
