Crash Review:

Crash is a game that can be played by anyone, anytime, pick it up and have a blast in single player or multiplayer mayhem, or sit down, relax and prepare for a long session as you progress through the career mode, with Crash the choice is yours. Crash is a game where Crashing means points and nothing other than total destruction will do, by not featuring officially licensed cars Rage have a free reign to do what the hell they want with them, and eliminates the problem of vehicle manufacturers not wanting to see there cars smashed up on screen as we see in oh so many games today.

The Genre all started some years ago now with titles like Destruction Derby on the Playstation, since then developers have tried to capture the success of the vehicular combat formula but with little or no success to date, Rage aim to change all of this with their arcade car smashing title Crash. Crash features fast paced, furious and fun gameplay and superb vehicle destruction effects. Not only do bumpers fall off they like just about every other part of the vehicle, they dent and bend before ultimate and complete vehiclular destruction.

There are eight standard playing arenas in Crash, all of which will put you and your skills through different game challenges like Free For All, Last Man Standing, Points Limit, Hunter, Stuntman, Eliminator, Checkpoint Races and many more. In addition to this there are four specific challenge arenas which present you with different and specific challenges such as Multi Tag, Defensive Driving, Offensive Driving, Bus Jumping, Barrel Roll, Stunts and others. The only Question remaining is are you up for the challenge?

Gameplay:
Crash is all about exactly what it says on the case? Crashing.? Move fast hit Hard and earn points, Crash rewards those who seek and participate in the action, those who run and hide may survive but never win. In Crash players need to Choose their vehicles wisely. The cars differ from each other by falling into different categories including: Hot Rod, Performance Car and Muscle Car and each arena is different and requires a different skill and possibly vehicle. Vehicle choice can aid or hinder your progression through the game.

Each vehicle has Nitrous Oxide capability, but nitros are a limited resource, use them wisely. In Crash there is no customisation of the vehicle which you choose other than the impressive paint jobs which players can select, there is no messing with the engine, no umming and ahhing about which tyres to choose and no pit-stops. Once the action begins there is no escape, it's crash and bang to the end, the only question remaining is can you survive?

Graphics:
Aesthetically CRASH is simply in a word stunning. Rage have paid special attention to the presentation and Graphics, each car is made up of over 10,000 polygons and features a a selection of skins as well as a pioneering and extensive damage modelling system which is pretty essential if the sole aim of your game is to destroy them!

Destruction of the vehicles is also an impressive visual part of the game, watch as the vehicles bend and warp during combat, and the subsequent debris which covers the track, Rage have not just made the cars look good either, everything from the arena walls and surroundings to the surface you drive the vehicle on is stunningly detailed and appears to be making use of the Xbox's advanced capabilities.

Longevity:
Crash is not going to be the longest game you will play on the Xbox, yet a game featuring so many modes and challenges will only ever make for replay value and with the option to pick up and play in multi-player mayhem will always remain. Overall Crash will always have something different to offer along with plenty of fun filled hours in single player crash is here for the long haul.

Round Up:
Overall Crash is a welcome edition to the Xbox, bringing simple, addictive and fun gameplay. The game also offers Simple yet intuitive controls, and features such as the excellent AI of your opponents which is very good and has obviously been well programmed. With all the fast crazy fast paced action, which is "Crash," this could almost be the perfect post-pub multi-player mayhem game and it is certainly a welcome edition to the Xbox, for both single and multi-players.

Pros:

  • Great Visuals with 10,000 + poly's per car.
  • Vehicle Damage!
  • Multi-Player mayhem (up to four player).
  • Nitrous Oxide power!!

    Cons:

    • Twitchy handling
