They're callous, they're diabolical and they're really cute. The Kewletts are a race of cute creatures that on orders of their princess,
are trying to take over all the land and rid all things ugly. Raze is your name and when you return home to your village you find the Kewlett
creatures are killing your fellow ugly villagers.
Raze is powerless to defend himself against these foul-mouthed Kewlett
Creatures; So the only thing Raze can do to survive is, run. Raze is chased by these creatures and continues to run through a
forest and into a cave, which is where he stumbles into a strange glowing blue relic. This blue orb has very special powers, which gives Raze the ability and strength for some payback against the Kewlett. Upon gaining the powers from the blue orb you are acquainted with the relics keeper; Slivh a talking bat and so your adventure begins.
Gameplay
The game play is similar to that of a typical 3rd person adventure game. In Raze’s Hell you run around collecting and sucking up squibs of different forms, which when sucked up give you different kinds of ammunition. At close range you can kill the cute Kewletts with a few swipes of your sword-like weapon, which is mounted on your left arm. Once an area of enemies is cleared, you can simply look at your map and roll up into a ball and quickly maneuver to your next objective. The most satisfying thing when rolled up, is to speed right into an Un-suspecting Kewlett and watch him splatter and slide down your TV screen!
Graphics
Raze’s Hell features some interesting surroundings, if a little bland. The character models are good, the thing that stands out the most is the shiny blue orb on Raze's back, which identifies who he is; much like green goggles are associated with Sam Fisher of Splinter Cell fame. The armies of Kewletts look like they've just been ripped right out of some kids television program, such as The Tweenies or Teletubbies. It's like a mesh of all cute kids' favourite television characters have been rolled into one to form the foul-mouthed Kewlett creatures.
Sound
The sound is humorous to say the least With Kewletts coming out with lines such as "Hey your not supposed to fight back, your supposed to die along with the rest of the other ugly things in your village" and "You know, shooting is almost as much fun as musical chairs". Your trusted companion, Slivh; often comes out with some ludicrous lines as well.
Longevity
With quite an intriguing story mode and Xbox Live multiplayer, one would assume that there is enough to keep you coming back for more. Unfortunately there is not much variety to the story mode; each level basically consists of you running from point 'a' to point 'b' and killing everything cute and cuddly along the way. There are however Xbox Live options, which are sure to add some replay value. There are a total of six multiplayer modes to play with, including
the usual; deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, king of the hill, team king of the hill and... football?
Overall
Raze's Hell is a fun but short-lived experience. While its story mode can be entertaining at times, it soon becomes repetitive as it's all shooting and killing. There are no puzzles or other things to do that can break the repetitive chain. The basic Xbox Live options may add some replay value, but that soon becomes tiresome also. If you want some quick bursts of fun by killing cute but annoying foul-mouthed merchandise, then I'd recommend at the very least that you rent this game.
Pros:
- Foul-mouthed creatures
- Satisfying gruesome kills
- Xbox Live Multiplayer
