Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2 - Bush Rescue Review:

Ty Tasmanian Bush Rescue is a game aimed at the younger player. The game puts you in control of Ty a Tasmanian tiger originally seen on the xbox in 2002. This time Ty is fighting Boss Cass again in a pretty simple story regarding mad lizards and their own independent country!!. This is manifested in 44 different missions, which can be played in quite an un-linear order. There are many sub-missions, involving helicopter, and driving side games. The missions are quite simple, involving rescuing someone, or solving ladders puzzles, to reach a target object. To get to the missions, Ty has a Truck, which he uses to get about a world map. There are quite a few things to do in between missions, such as collect gems, which can be used to buy Ty's weapons.

The apparent tiger weapon of choice is the boomerang and there are quite a few of them which add a lot to the game. There are fire-boomerangs, ice-boomerangs, and even ones that allow Ty to see hidden objects. Ty carries two of these boomerangs at a time, and they can be used as a gliding device when Ty jumps from heights, which is actually quite fun. Boomerangs are mainly used to attack the enemy! Ty can also use his bite to kill the enemies. A nice touch are the “mech” suits that Ty can buy, these add more to the game and expand areas Ty can go.

Ty Tasmanian Bush Rescue is quite ordinary and remains pretty mediocre. It is what you would expect from this type of game these days. Had this game been released a couple of years ago, I may have been more lenient, but as the standard of games is at the moment, TY does not cut it, and will only really be enjoyed by gamers under the age of 12, which in all fairness is the end of the market it is aimed at.

There is also a nice touch that you can play the cart racing games as a stand alone game. The further you progress in the main game, means that more tracks will unlock for you here. This cart game plays like Mario Cart, but is not in its league, with bad handling and car physics. It’s just a bonus game and again it is adequate rather than mind blowing.

Graphics:

Ty is a pretty looking game. The levels are large and colorful. The game has a distinct cartoon feel to it, and is set in the Australian outback. There is nothing new here to be seen but like the rest of the game the graphics are not bad, just average. The character designs are cute and kids will love them. Overall the graphics do an adequate job but nothing special. During play I did not notice any slowdown, or drop in frame rate which is good. To be fair kids will enjoy looking at this game, but adults will feel a bit letdown.

Sound:

With want of not being repetitive, the sound is average. The voices used in this game all have Australian accents, and speak in a very childish manner.

Kids will really enjoy the sound, so Ty achieves its aim there. The Sound track bounces along quite jovially, and for a change in this sort of game is not too annoying. The sound effects overall are very bog standard and seem very generic.

Longevity:

There is enough here to keep a child busy for ages, but it is not at all challenging for anyone over 12. There is a lot to see and do, with many of the usual places such as underwater levels, volcanic fire levels and ice levels. This game is big enough so no gripes there, but as I have said earlier most gamers over the age of 12, will not find much to interest them here.

Round up:

If you are buying this for a Childs Christmas present, then you won't be disappointed, but if you get it for Christmas yourself, then I believe you won't be best pleased. This is not a bad game, but even if judged for kids it is average.
