Disneys Haunted Mansion Review:

Inspired by Disney’s theme park attraction, you play the character of Zeke Holloway, a mild manner ghost hunter who has to uncover the truth behind all the murders that have plagued the building since the day it was built.

As Zeke, you must explore every room in the mansion collecting the evil spirits and putting them to rest whilst trying to stay alive and not being scared to death. As you progress through the mansion you must solve eerie puzzles and uncover tons of clues, passageways and secrets in order to solve the mystery inside the mansion. With the help of Madame Leota, a friendly spirit inside a crystal ball, you must battle against skeletal sharks, armoured knights, gruesome bridesmaids and, of course, shambling zombies.

Graphics & Control:

The graphics are very smooth and bring the essence of a ghostly mansion to life (if that is possible considering you are battling the dead.) The one thing I did find bad were the awkward controls when fighting the evil monsters. It usually meant firing in the direction of the enemy whilst not looking directly at them and you never knew if you had actually hit them until their death cry. The scenery is pretty basic but the ghosts themselves are graphically brilliant. You can see right thru them from all directions.

Sound:

The main voice you hear throughout the game is your friendly spirit advisor Madame Leota. Jennifer Tilly, who is in fact the same actress who plays that role in the latest Disney film of the same name, acts her voice. Apart from that you have the usual moans and groans that you would associate with the living dead.

Longevity:

The game is very linear and you don’t feel like you have the freedom of the house to explore rooms when you feel like it, as you must collect a number of souls before entering certain rooms. I also felt at times frustrated at the fact you only have a certain amount of lives and you felt obliged to save the game after every room to only find that you didn’t have enough strength to progress. Of course, some would say that you needed to play the game better (which I did) but to have to replay certain rooms time and time again because you died at the very end of the puzzle is a nightmare. Once you have finished the game, I can’t see you going back to play it again.

Round Up:

From the start you can tell the puzzles are going to be good but even that will start to wear thin when you have to battle the same monsters time and time again whilst moving from room to room. Overall, it is a nice game but you might want to rent this one out first in case you can finish this game too quickly.

Pros:

  • Excellent animation and graphics
  • Music

    Cons:

    • Camera Angles
