Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an action reporter for a rebel organization who wants to reveal a conspiracy fuelled by the government ? Well, that is exactly what you get in this game. You play Jade, a young Hyllian woman who has lately been tormented by disturbing visions of alien races. Therefore it wouldn’t surprise you to hear that her peaceful planet has fallen under siege by a relentless alien race. Despite pubic assurances that everything is safe and secure, Jade begins to suspect that there is more to these invasions than what the government is disclosing. Her fears are reinforce when the Rebel underground movement IRIS, asks her for help in unravelling the plot.
As Jade, you start off as the caretaker of the lighthouse and a sort of foster parent to several kids who live with you until that one frightful day when the aliens decide to attack. Armed with a camera, aikido staff and her investigative skills, Jade sets out to expose the truth and liberate the minds of her deceived people. Your first mission, is to make some money to pay for the electricity which is needed to govern the shield that protects the city. This is done by Jade taking photos of every living creature on the planet and sending them off to the Science Centre, where depending on how rare they are, she will receive money for them. Sounds simple enough, and with over 200 different types, you wont stop clicking that shutter. BUT, that is just one of the many things that Jade has to do.
During the course of the game, you are helped by several other characters including Jade’s uncle Pey’l and Agent Double-H. This means that a lot of the time you have to work together with one of your companions, requiring you to plan your way through an area with teamwork. As well as walking, running and crawling around the city, you have access to your very own hovercraft to travel between the various islands and further into the game, you acquire a spaceship to take you to your final mission on the moon. Of course your hovercraft is of basic design but can be upgraded throughout the game by visiting the local garage, but instead of exchanging money for parts, you have to trade the black market pearls. Pearls? Yep, by defeating various aliens and completing assignments, you receive pearls. There are 88 gems in total to find and if you manage to locate all of them, you are then given access to a sub game called ‘Marbles’. Other sub games are littered throughout the game such as racing, and air hockey.
Graphics & Control:
Out of this world is the best way to describe this game. There are no boundaries to where you can go and no fogging. The animation is superb and very fluid. The controls are simple enough with a great interface to access all of the features that you need to use during the game.
Sound:
The voices in this game are fantastic and don’t sound out of place and really bring the characters alive. As well as the usual sounds you would associate with lasers, doors etc etc, the general ambience is top notch, especially when you are walking through the city and the crowds are protesting.
Longevity:
This game has one of the best storylines I have ever played and if it was a film, you wouldn’t move from your seat due to the twists and turns. Unfortunately, due to the thrilling story, you are going to want to see what happens next and will play this non stop until you have finish, which means you could finish this game in a day.
Round Up:
Overall, a brilliant story which makes you talk to everyone you encounter, overcome obstacles and work through the many puzzles. It’s not a game where you have to kill everyone but a game that requires stealth and planning. Well worth a hire if you think you can finish this game quickly, otherwise you won’t be disappointed if you purchase it.
Pros:
- Excellent animation and graphics
- Storyline.
- Music
