NFL Street Review:

Ever wondered what it would be like to have a friendly game of Football (American) in the park or perhaps on the beach ? Well, from the developers that gave you Madden NFL Football, a new brand has been created where Style is Everything !!

NFL Street is not your typical American football game, in fact it is more arcade than simulation. It’s a fast paced 7 on 7 gameplay where players high step, pitch and crush their way down the field. Outscoring your opponents is no longer enough to win the game instead bring some style and showboat yourself to victory.

When you first start it up, you are not presented with the many menus that you associate with sport games, in fact it is set up in a way that takes you to the game in the quickest number of button pushing. Of course, you can always take your time and explore, where you will then find several features that enhance the game.

So, what kind of features does this NFL game have? For starters, if you are going to be playing the ‘NFL Challenge’, you will need to create a team. Nope, we don’t just mean, pick seven guys and that’s it…..no, no, no. You get to choose everything about them, height, weight, tattoos, kit, stats etc etc etc. Whilst you progress through the game, you will receive extra ‘development points’ which you can use to build up their stats. I’ve briefly mentioned the ‘Challenge’ but if that is not your thing, then there are two quick ways of just playing a game. The first is to just pick a team in the ‘Quick Game’ mode, the other is where you pick every player for your team one by one from a roster of all the lastest and classic players of the NFL.

Back to the main feature of this game – ‘NFL Challenge’. After creating a team, you get a choice of two challenge modes, the first being ‘Ladder’ and the other ‘Challenge’. The idea is for your team to climb the ladder but to stand any chance you need to develop your team using the challenge mode. Of course that sounds really easy but there is a catch. Each challenge will cost you tokens. The bigger the reward, the more the challenge will cost you. You can not go through all the challenges with the tokens you start with, and this is where the ladder comes into play. To gain extra tokens, you must beat the NFL teams on the ladder, so by playing one you help the other, which in turns helps you to build your team up. Neat !!

Graphics & Controls:

The graphics are huge and smooth. The whole game looks wonderful and the controls feel great, in fact there is no faulting this game except when you are defending, you just don’t seem to have a chance against the opposition. This may be down to the fact that you need to build your team up even better but no one has that from the start. The ‘Style’ moves are impressive to watch and easy to pull off but watch out, you can easily fumble the ball if you get tackled whilst showing off !!

Sound:

The tunes that come with the game are very Urban and blend in well as this is supposed to be a street game. The other sounds are exactly what you expect from a football game and are done very well.

Longevity:

With the NFL Challenge being the core of the game, this mode should last you for a very long time. Also with the multiplayer feature allowing you to play up to four friends, the appeal is there to improve your own teams and battle them against your mates.

Round Up:

Overall, this is a very good game but if you want to play NFL Football and already own one of the other NFL titles such as Madden, than you might want to hire this out first to see if you like it.

Pros:

  • No Rules NFL
  • Team Editor

    Cons:

    • No Live or System Link
