Madden NFL has been around since the early days of the Sega Megadrive and is now into it's 14th year and once again proves it's status as the undisputed leader in authentic NFL football simulation.
Gameplay: The main question that everyone always ask is what is different between this year's and last year's game ? Well, quite a lot has been added to enhance the game. The new features include a revolutionary Playmaker Control that lets gamers adjust on the fly just as NFL players do and a Deep Owner Mode options. This new feature allows you to take over all responsibilites of the owner in addition to GM, coach and player duties which you had in Franchise mode last year. As the owner, you have the chance to relocate your team, build a new stadium and set all prices including food, merchandise and parking. You can also hire your own coaching staff. So, not only can you play the team...YOU get to manage them and there is so much more from mini-camp drills to player trading as well as the new style Madden Cards.
Graphics: If you thought Madden 2003 had outstanding graphics, then think again as EA have managed to improve once again on something that was out of this world. You would be hard press to find fault with the graphics and one could almost feel that they were watching an actual game. The stadiums have been recreated perfectly and the atmosphere is just jumping out at you. It's unbelievable !!
New broadcast quality effects create a seamless transition from the end of the play to the play-call interface with post-play graphics shown on screen. Other enhancements include new split screen replays, numerous specialty animations including stumbles with the ball, open field blocks, defensive reaction moves, and new QB scramble transitions to improve throwing the run. Players are modeled with the greatest accuracy ever including tattoos on player arms, dreadlocks, and long hair sticking out of the helmets, and all the latest NFL alternate uniforms and helmet styles.
Sound: New and improved commentary featuring the Monday Night Football team of John Madden and Al Michaels give you a dynamic play by play with sideline reporting by Melissa Stark. The new commentary elements include "Gamestory" mode which provides improved overtime commentary, halftime analysis, and increased rivalry/championship specific commentary, improved replay commentary, audio for specific player moves, blowout commentary, and much more. As well as commentary you have the EA Sports Trax and Jukebox featuring new songs and the ability to custom your own play lists.
Longevity: Each match lasts for about an hour, so if you wanted to play one season...well...you do the maths. Not only have you got the full matches to contend with, there are the mini-camps, pre season games, ownership options and collecting the full Madden Card set. This game will last as long as you want to play football or until next year when Madden 2005 comes out.
Round Up: You can't beat Madden only equal it and if you own any other Madden title, this year's offer is more than just an updated version...it's a brand new game !!
