Man, Isn't it great? I mean, in an age of games like GTA Vice City and Postal, games can come out that have no limits. So, it's only fitting that an Evil Dead game come out right? Well, a few years back, just such a game came out. It was called Hail to the King, and it was almost universally deemd as terrible. So all of us Evil Dead fanatics out there felt a bit disenchanted. However, something strange happened. Another Evil Dead game was announce, titled Evil Dead: A Fistfull of Boomstick. Now come on, how could a game with that title possible suck right? Well, the truth is, it can't.
You see, this is just a great game. Nothing fancy, no big puzzles or complex stroyline. No branching paths and intriquite character developement. Just good ole' Bruce and his Boomstick. Think Hunter the Reckoning but with Ash in it. So you want to know WHY this game is so great, well I'll tell you.
Gameplay - 10
Man, could it get any simpler? You play as Ash. You have a boomstick (if you don't know what that is, then GET OUT!) Well, you also get some of our hero's other toys, like dynomite, and of course, a chainsaw. The premise is simple. You walk around the game's many large levels, killing zombies and collecting items to complete objectives. Sounds boring right? Wrong! It's not. In fact, the implicity and tightness of the controls, combined with the utter enjoyability of the game make A Fistfull of Boomstick one of the most fun games you'll play.
Graphics - 8
Well, nothing too fancy here. Nothing really looks BAD, but nothing really outstanding is done either. But that's not too different from the movies now is it? They were always dark, and gory, just like this game. The character animation is smooth, and the framerate stay steady. Everything works ot fine.
Sound - 10
Ok, so there is not much sound other than the screams of zombies as you blow their brains out, but stil this game gets a 10 since Bruce's voice acting is so good. All of his standard lines are there, and you can even press a button to hear them when you're bored. Good fun!
Overall - 10
Come on, it's Evil Dead people! And this game is very well done. It does nothing new, and nothing extraordinary, but it doesn't try too either. It only tries to be an awesome ass-kicking shooter, and it succeeds beutifully. I Highly recomend this title.
