MotoGP Review:

If there was one single motorbike game I would have to recommend to everyone out there who has an Xbox it would be Moto GP so read on to listen to my wise supercharged words my friends.

Gameplay:
Moto GP is a very slick game and is well presented and good to play from start to finish as the game consists of several different modes and they all bring you into the game in their own way: training brings you into the game, quick race will get you started racing until you reach the arcade championship and go onto a full-fledged grand prix championship. So the way the game is structured is very well done so that a beginner or a pro to the world of biking can play the game, so there are many modes to keep to keep you playing but the actual gameplay is what’s going to keep you coming back for more and it does particularly in Moto GP. Controlling the game at first I thought would be hard as there are mentions of front and back brakes but they are mainly used for doing endos, burnouts and the like really as there is a proper brake too. But there are many different ways of setting up the control pad to race the race you want, although the original configuration seems fine really.
The game is fun to play from start to finish, getting off the start line has no problems even when you crash as comical as it may seem the rider literally gets up on his bike and gets going straight away, but it’s all done smoothly. Rider AI is pretty good although nothing special has been implemented the riders will try and win the race like usual but will also try and take you out if you annoy them enough. The bikes are also very reactant to what surface they are on they will slow you up on grass, more so on gravel and if you get too close to the ground you’ll come off. If there’s something I could pick out wrong with the game would be the fact that there’s no damage, but then again I suspect the bike manufacturers didn’t want any damage so there’s little you can do really. In the championship modes you can create your own bike and biker too to take you through the championship always a nice effect o have in a game, but there’s no create a track sadly. Moto GP is one of those games that keeps you coming back for more each time because each go is thoroughly enjoyable, fan or no fan.

Graphics:
What can I say, the graphics are getting extremely close to life like in the replays, with even the helicopter view and the like being used here. If it’s one thing I like about Moto GP graphic-wise is the way you go through menu systems and everything practically, it’s just like you’d see it on television and it’s smooth in doing so adding to the realism factor. Even effects like rain will appear on the screen like it would collect on the television camera and the blur effect is a very nice and just right for this sort of game too – when you reach a high speed on your motorbike the outside world blurs as you speed past, when you slow down the camera draws close to the rider and stops blurring this can be a little off-putting at first but nothing too nasty. Overall the graphics have been well made; great to look at and many well achieved effects have been used too.

Sound:
Moto GP has made full use of the Xboxes hard drive and gives the option of in-house music or whatever is on your hard drive simply, good for me as my hard drive is full of music. The bikes sound very realistic, even bolts of lightening sound great too when heard. As far as sound goes on this game there’s little you can do to improve it realistically.

Longevity:
Moto GP has lots to offer, even to the die-hard fans of Moto GP will have a time getting through this as 6 modes are available to play including quick race, arcade championship, grand prix series, training, time trials and a multiplayer mode on offer. Now that’s plenty certainly a game that won’t be done in a rental and is worth buying. Plus the fact that many items are unlockable including tracks, riders and even movies.

Round Up:
Overall Moto GP is the best motorbike game on Xbox, fact. The game is presented smoothly, very nice to look at not to mention play as well. I couldn’t ask any more for a motorbike racer really, an excellent game one that should be purchased to be placed in your Xbox library - motorbike fan or no fan, sheer genius.

Pros:

  • Brilliant looking graphics
  • Game presented very nicely and smoothly
  • Gameplay keeps you coming back for more
  • So many different modes guaranteed to keep you going for ages
  • Anyone can pick up ’n’ play

    Cons:

    • No damage
