Please note, this is a hands on experience review and not our final review of this product. Code of games played at the X01 event may not be final. Stormfront Studios bring us the mission based High Seas adventure and at X01 I got the chance to play this boat-blasting adventure Blood Wake exclusive to the Microsoft Xbox console.
Immediately I picked up the controller I took to the High Sea adventure and set out on my mission of destruction. I instantly was utterly impressed with the very best water/sea effect I have ever seen on any console or game, I have only ever seen better on a Rage PC demo at ECTS demonstrating the G-Force 3's abilities and on the G-Force 3 demo's so I was especially pleased to see such stunning effects coming from the heart of the Xbox.
The amazing attention to details does not stop simply with superb sea/wave and water effects, the level of detail of each vessel is also equally impressive as each vessel also leave a wake wave in addition to the actual waves, add in to the mix some stunning and enormous explosions at every turn and you might start to get the impression that your mission has only just begun, be sure of this that you need to keep your wits about you as this is no game for the weak, this is vehicular combat on the high seas and at high speeds.
The gameplay was super smooth and super fast, the boats reactions to the waves was so life like in look and feel that you could almost feel that 10 foot wave smash into the side of your boat. Missions will carry you across numerous environments, including river deltas, island groups, sheltered bays, deep canyons and, of course, the open ocean.
Blood Wake offers more than 10 different gunboats for you to choose from, these include Patrol boats, PT boats, pocket battleships, capitol ships, sampans, battle junks, freighters, speeders, medium speeders and cruisers. You'll will also be able to equip your boat with any number of fun combinations, with machineguns, chain guns, cannons, rockets, torpedoes, and mines, making the right choice of weaponry for the mission is as important as knowing how to use that weapon!
All in all I enjoyed Blood Wake and was very impressed with every detail, I highly recommend that you all at least hire this little gem, After all vehicular combat on the open seas is not everyone's cup of tea but it should at least be seen to be believed and it at least deserves that you try this little screamer from Stormfront Studios.
