When Sega GT originally came out on the Dreamcast it got so much criticism, I'm not really sure why this was. Some put it down to Sega 'copying' the idea of the original Gran Turismo that came out on the Playstation. Others put it down to Sega GT having an overall 'slow' feel to the driving aspect of the gameplay. This time round Sega GT 2002 will prove to its critics that this incarnation is in tip-top shape. For starters many licensed car manufacturers are to be included in the line up(Nissan, Subaru and Toyota were in the original) these cars will not only feature from a modern day line up but many classic cars will be featured in a 'Chronicle mode' too. All of which can be used to win the world championship and many other tournaments amongst others. There is also a non-licensed car section, upon which you build a car from scratch using various components, this also comes in handy when you get further in amongst the tournaments along allowing you to fine tune cars with better knowledge. But there will also be an Arcade mode to accompany the World Championship mode allowing you to race pre-tuned cars as well as your own customized car. Inclusive features in Sega GT 2002 are actual car sound effects, mechanical effects and graphical effects never before seen in a video game. Famous cars from history, completely restored have been included but no word on what they will be. There is also a Time attack mode to be included along with a 2-player head to head mode, although if something such as 8-player racing could be done that would be mind blowing and great for an 'Xbox party'. Sega GT 2002 will also be including 'Reflection Mapping' which uses the theory of reflection on textured surfaces in game, which is normally quite hard to pull off in a video game but not on the Xbox as this will be used on the bodywork of all the cars featured in Sega GT 2002. For a racing game I wouldn't expect any more, my only doubts are coming from the amount of tracks and cars Sega will be including. Apart from that Sega GT 2002 will give Gran Turismo 3 a good run for it's money; it has the sound, graphical and gameplay potential to create a winning title. All I can say is tell us how many cars and tracks there will be Sega!! Preview By: Graham Seward |
