With the second movie being produced and talk of a third the idea of a Matrix game seems, well a little late to be honest. The Matrix was one heck of a film, 'a modern masterpiece' quoted by some. Back in February 2001 Interplay took on the rights to make the Matrix game and even up until today: April 2002, over a year later we have seen pretty much nothing. What we do know is that the Matrix will be an action based game, and that Interplay are working in co-operation with the Wachowski brothers to improve the game and make the game very much like the movie. The game will most likely involve the story of the original merged with the story of the second, seeing as the second film is due to be released this year. How they are going to do that is going to be interesting to say the least. Whether they will 'chop and cut' parts of the two movies and stick them together into one game, or whether they will possibly put the two stories together so that one follows on from the other. These ideas are still to be confirmed, but both ideas seem like an interesting combination either way. Neo would be the main character(As he was in the movie), and probably the game will be based on going from level to level following the storyline or possibly based on some exploration that could throw in a bit of storyline too. Personally I think a bit of storyline would be good, but not too much that would get irritating as you do want the action too, we might even get a totally new type of action game. But who knows maybe Interplay will add a multiplayer option, it doesn't seem likely, I mean what form would it come in? From the original you can tell that Interplay will include some of the well-remembered locations such as the military hallway, the subway area and the area where the 3 agents chased Neo. As far as graphics would go Interplay have shown us what they can do with the power of X-Box with Hunter: The Reckoning and they're not bad to say the least. What I really would like to see within a game at last is the actual storyline of the movie implemented well into the game, most games of movies really don't live up to the hype that the movie has and that tends to set the game high standards that aren't always possible. But I get the feeling that Interplay are going to pull off their best game yet, they've worked so long on this with aid from the Wachowski brothers too it must be something special. Definitely something for the Matrix fans to watch, but something for us gamers to keep an eye on too. I say this will either 'wow' us with amazement or most likely I'll give up hope of ever seeing any half-decent movie to game conversions again.
