Think Black & White was a true character test? Think again, Good Cop/Bad Cop is here to test your morals to the absolute limit. Developed by Revolution Software, it is unfortunately not an intense, psychologically damaging interrogation game (hmm, must contact publishers...) Good Cop/Bad Cop sets you in the shoes of Ben Kellman; a typically tough and cynical police officer who is on the case of a murderer who turns out to be the killer of his father 25 years previous. It's your decision as to whether you bring him to justice by the book or exact revenge and give him a taste of cold-blooded murder.

All the time you are playing, your morality is being judged by the game and it then shapes the storyline around your actions. The ending is different depending on how you play; will you go for a jolly and happy ending with the killer being banged up for life or will you exact revenge and paying the price of your own morality? Up to you. I hand you over to Charles Cecil, managing director of Revolution to elaborate: "For Good Cop Bad Cop we draw inspiration from classic American cop action-films and will translate their explosive action into gameplay...Featuring operatic shoot-outs and moments of unbelievable tension, the game will see the player embark on rooftop chases and gun fights across crowded thoroughfares, kick down doors, capture suspects and arrest or execute them. Players are free to further their investigation as they wish, beating up or killing suspects; wounding or permanently silencing enemies." All sounds very exciting but it remains to be seen if it just changes the ending depending on how dirty you played or actually has many branches and avenues to be explored and moulds this around the way you play.

The game looks nice enough but a little ragged around the edges. However it is still in development and should look much more like a next-gen game when it is released this spring/summer and uses advanced facial animation technology to provide a more realistic experience. The game is played in the third-person perspective and combines frantic gun toting action sequences with puzzles and stealth sequences aplenty. There is a huge cast of characters to drive the story forward and features engrossing cinematic cut-scenes to immerse you, the player in the whole experience. GC/BC certainly has a lot of potential and if that potential is realised, you will certainly have a rich experience waiting for you. Only time will tell and it's not long before release so expect a review as soon as we can get one to you.
