Blood Wake is a super-fast action 'vehicular combat' game where you take control of a boat souped up to the max with huge guns and weapons. Obvioulsy the idea is to cream the opposition, engaging in combat with other boats, forts and taking part in shore battles in a variety of different mission structures from escorts to attack missions. You will take on the character of a naval lieutenant who is betrayed by an evil kingdom?! Enlisting the help of a group of bandit sea-raiders, you must defeat and overthrow the evil kingdom's army and restore peace love and happiness to the land. Make of this surreal storyline what you will, but in the meantime here's the game's main features:
Ten different types of gunboats: Catamarans, Torpedo Boats, Sampans, Devil Boats and a host of others will ensure variety in the gameplay.
Insanely powerful weapons: Featuring chain guns, cannons, rockets, torpedoes, mines, you won't be spoilt for choice as to the best way to destroy your enemy.
Split screen multiplayer: Take on your friends or bots in multiplayer mayhem with games like deathmatch, team-deathmatch and more.
Over 25 single player story-based missions: Dynamic environments include open ocean, island groups, sheltered bays deep canyons and river deltas with each mission having its own weather effects ranging from foggy conditions to storms and typhoons. Day and night missions will also be included.
Nine different mission types: Attack missions, defend ship/escort, recon and more.
Realistic water effects and physics: Your ship will be affected realistically depending on how it hits the waves and different types of waves such as 'rooster tail wakes' and rolling/crashing waves.
Blood Wake is a brave attempt at branching out from the usually straightforward action genre and has every opportunity to achieve what it promises. The game certainly has potential but only if it makes itself fun to play. More on this as the spring release draws ever closer.
