Over the years I have come to the conclusion that if you were to experience a traumatic experience in your life, it’s not really a good idea to experience it again. I mean is it me, or is all common sense just out the window these days? Even more when someone else experiences such events in their life, you’d think others would listen?

Well when James Sunderland receives a letter from his late wife beckoning him to the town of Silent Hill, you would have thought that something was a miss? Well obviously not. This may not be such a bad thing for Konami as it gives them yet another excuse to earn much more money as we get to relive the highly acclaimed predecessor with a new story, more blood, gore and all the usual stuff that’s expected these days.

The good thing about this unlike some other sequels is that this game is only based on the same location as the previous. We’re still stuck in the Silent Hill, now a deserted town with many bodies as an aide memoire of what has happened before. But of course James has never heard of Silent Hill before, nor has he heard of any of the likely news reports that may have followed in the past (and it doesn’t seem like it’s being covered up either).

So off he goes in the hopes of finding his lost love only to find what awaits him there. That’s pretty much all we know. But it’s got me on the edge of my seat. The game itself will more than likely run along the same lines as the original. You go about investigating the streets, picking up clues etc. and you meet a lot of spooky people along the way. What will probably be even more unnerving this time around is the fact that the majority of people are now dead. But I’m sure the dead are lovely people when you get to know them.

Sadly in the hell-ridden town, most of them will take a grudge against you for having a heart that beats and will probably want to take you down for it. Run? Well not when you’re blocked in the old school corridors or the lavatories. Skill and might will be required at all times, not to mention a clear head. Hold onto it tightly because you might loose it.

What differentiates the two games ‘Silent Hill’ mainly is the brand new graphics and sound that the PS2 and Xbox will not only supply, but it’s not just about supply and demand. The next generation versions of this game will supply the sickening world of Silent Hill as it was always meant to be. While the PS2 version will be a huge improvement to the original PSX game, the Xbox version (called ‘Silent Hill X’) will be absolutely terrifying.

While we are still awaiting more details other than a basic story and some breathtaking screenshots, we can only dread to imagine the fear that Konami will be bringing to our bedrooms. Can I stay at your place tonight??
