Cel Damage Preview:
Crazier than ‘Crazy Taxi’: Wackier than ‘Wacky Races’. ‘Cel Damage’ has only been a fairly recent addition to what is already a huge and promising list of games due for release on the Xbox, but already it looks as if this one’s gonna be a storm! Why? Because it’s INSANE! Once you see for yourself what this game is has to offer, you’ll be saying the same thing.

‘Cel Damage’ is a ‘Wacky Races’ / ‘Super Mario Kart’ type of game: You go round in your strangely designed car, pick up weapons of some nature and use it against your opponents on the race track… And it’s great fun. It’s been fairly popular to try and imitate these types of games, but games developers prefer not to attempt this, as it’s often very hard to equal such high standards.

The good news is ‘Cel Damage’ looks like one of those timeless-classics-to-be. One of the first things that spring to mind is just how similar this game looks to the likes of Sega’s ‘Jet Grind Radio’. And no, it’s not your eyes deceiving you. This game looks so similar it’s almost cheeky. It’s obvious this style of graphic (a combination of cartoon and 3D graphics first seen in ‘Parapper The Rapper’ - for the benefit of those that don’t know) has become very popular in recent days, mainly due to the fact that people are bored of 2D or 3D only games, and this is more interesting.

But as with many other things that I refuse to example, it’s not what it is, but what you do with it that counts. ‘Cel Damage’ is like all those cartoon racing games that we saw as children. We’d always imitate them in the playground, but you could never be ‘in’ the cartoon. This game allows you to join in on the fun – and admit it, you always wanted to. It’s a pleasure to look at, and hopefully this game will be even more of a pleasure to play.

While ‘Cel Damage’ physically looks more pleasing to the eye than many games we’ve seen before of this genre, and possibly more fun, it does have a few limitations. This game will feature in total of around 10 levels, 10 characters and over 30 weapons when it’s finally released. While this is of average amount, it’s likely that they will be long extensive levels with plenty of unnecessary (but fun) action involved.

Many features and modes of play will be available for you to drool over. Play modes such as the standard ‘Gate Relay’, to the ‘Flag Rally’ and ‘Smack Attack’ that look like they should belong in ‘Quake’ – but still, if they’ve incorporated that, then that’s a good thing, right? You’ll also be able to play in 4-player mode, which means endless fun with yer mates over many a can of beer. No news of an Online mode yet, but fingers crossed. All together, ‘Cel Damage’ looks like it could well be a truly fantastic game to marvel over. Personally, I can’t wait!
