The Simpson’s, now there a name you don’t here too often in the videogame market. Despite the fact there have been quite a few Simpson’s games spanning across a few generations of consoles only one or possibly two have appealed to me. The most recent would have to be The Simpson’s wrestling on the PSone, that was a quality game for the PSone despite being in the late stages of it’s life.

But that’s not what I’m here to talk about, I’m talking about The Simpson’s road rage and this will prove to everyone that this is the best Simpson’s game yet! There’s a story?? Yes believe it or not there’s a story and it goes like this: Mr. Burns has purchased the Springfield Transit Corporation for one million dollars and raised prices so high no ones willing to pay. So everyone has decided to use a car to get from a to b and so Springfield has become one great big traffic jam, everyone has become engulfed in ‘road rage’ hence the title.

Everyone has now decided to club up and buy back the Transit Corporation themselves and take it off Mr. Burns’s hands and restore peace to Springfield. I like the look of that! The first thing you’ll notice about The Simpson’s road rage is that the graphics have a very realistic ‘cartoon’ feel to them which enhances the gameplay, as you’re playing a cartoon based game you want to feel like you’re, well playing the cartoon! These graphics were obtained from the developers(Radical Entertainment) very own H-line technology which maintains the graphical look of 2D and 3D combined, along with the Toon Renderer™ which creates the authentic look of The Simpson’s.

From the screenshots I’ve seen it looks impressive, but what’s even better is the fact that there are many small details in the game: for example if you drive past the Googolplex cinema you’ll be able to see a list of wittingly named films, extra things like that make a game good. EA have described the game to be full of the usual Simpson’s humour and locations combined with edge of your seat driving(similar to that of Crazy Taxi).

The game includes 22 favourite Simpson’s characters(35 in total) along with the actual voices from the show. MMM Money!!! To earn the money to buy back the Transit Corporation you must embark on many skill-based missions, players must drive like hell to complete their missions and all before the time runs out! There are 12 different themed landscapes and 100 different landmarks in the city.

The story mode offers over 60 different deliveries within the missions. Even after you’ve completed the game Radical Entertainment have announced that there are bonus features within the game. The bonus mode rewards players of all abilities and gives the player the ability to choose which character drives which car. There’s even a Sunday driving mode that allows you to explore Springfield at your own pace.

D’oh Whenever you come across a game there always has to be a drawback even if it’s only small one! If I had to pick some downsides to the game I’d have to say that because this is practically a new genre (Driving/Adventure) I’m not 100% sure whether it will be all that popular. The fact that Simpson’s games haven’t always turned out to have the great gameplay of some of their other hits might be a downside to this game. But I have the strange feeling this might have the potential to be the best Simpson’s game made yet.
