The first flight game on the Xbox certainly looks promising, not just because of its development from well-renowned Konami, but also because of the concept of the game as a whole is one that we haven’t seen in a while. The best air combat / flight sim we’ve seen yet were of the works of Namco’s Ace Combat. If you’ve ever seen the film (and younger players are unlikely to have done so) Top Gun (staring we-haven’t-quite-got-rid-of Hollywood star Tom Cruise) then you’d be pretty familiar with how this game works.
If you haven’t played ‘Ace Combat’ or seen Top Gun then now’s a good time to find out what this type of game is all about. For the benefit of those that have not done any of the listed, air combat is basically as the name suggest. Pilots (especially those in the Navy) go in their air crafts and use missiles to carry out certain missions and if any other crafts get in their way, they blow them up too. Got it? Good! So we move onto the game itself that is ‘AirForce Delta Storm’.
And what a sight it is. Combining Konami’s legendary game developing abilities along with the Xbox’s power, we can only expect something spectacular. And spectacular it could well be as this game boasts many features of gameplay to keep you going for hours on end. The first thing that grasps you when looking at this game is the graphics – obviously a good start. The scenery of the land of which you fly around is simply breathtaking.
Throughout the game, you’ll be treated to the likes of hills, mountains, sea, lakes, military bases, and deserts – the lot. The scenery is supposedly more interactive than any other game of its kind. When you go and blow up a base for instance, you’ll actually see the damage your missile is actually doing. This could be very fun after a night out at the bars. We expect to see more of what this game is graphically capable of in the near future, but the images supplied to us have simply got us gagging for more.
AirForce Delta Storm boasts over 50 aircraft that you’ll be able to fly, each showing off some of the most recent in military technology (I say “recent” because knowing the military, it’s probably 10 years behind and only letting us into these designs recently) You’re put into the cockpit to handle any one of them you desire. While controlling these warplanes, you’ll have to take on taxing missions that will stretch the abilities of gamers of all levels. It all looks promising for a good game, but the main question is, do Konami still have the ability to set the standard? ‘AirForce Delta Storm’ should answer this soon enough.
