Call of Duty Finest Hour (COD: FH) will take players to the frontlines of combat where they can experience the cinematic intensity, chaos of battle and epic moments of World War II. Players will encounter campaigns across the North African, Western and Eastern Fronts from the perspectives and reliving the brutal experiences of the Russian, British and the American forces.
The original Call of Duty was released on the PC last year and soon became a multi award winning game from developers Spark and publisher Activision. Some might say that Call of Duty was the game EA’s Medal of Honor should have always been and considering the development team is primarily made up from members of the Medal of Honor development team (30+ of them). The comparison may be a fair one but not for us to debate as simply put, Call of Duty places gamers in the boots and trenches of the allied forces and delivers the most intense, gritty WWII experience seen to date.
COD: FH aims to deliver the same intense WWII experiences to console gamers. Spark have created COD: FH from the ground up, this is not a simple port of the previous PC version, the entire game including the game engine which has been redesigned and will deliver new levels, new missions, and new characters. COD: FH places players in the boots of 6 different soldiers and follows each of these characters stories during the events of WWII. The German army is pressing forward and the primary objective is to stop their assault on Europe and North Africa.
As with the original PC title the game is separated in to different stories one for each of the allied forces featured. In each of the stories players will assume the role of a soldier from one of the 3 allied forces accordingly. As a Russian soldier for example players must counter the German offensive and take back Stalingrad. In this scenario players will assume the role of a Russian soldier in an under equipped and under powered force. Landing on the shores of Stalingrad from the Volga River, equipped with nothing more than 5 rifle shells you must assault a hill which is heavily defended by the more powerful and better equipped Nazi forces (much like the Normandy landing scene in Medal of Honor). Once you reach the summit you will join up with your forces and undertake the challenge of recapturing Stalingrad. Moving forward through the ruins you will eventually collect a rifle from a fallen and lifeless comrade (much like that scene in the movie, Enemy at the Gates) seeking cover, initially you will need to eliminate the German officers which will enable your forces to press forward and ultimately win the battle.
COD: FH allows gamers to feel like a true soldier where you will be fighting alongside squad-mates, taking orders or simply trying to survive during the most grueling and harrowing battles from WWII. You will be able to play through epic and realistic battlefield moments, become immerged in truly realistic war torn surroundings and will battle the Nazi war machine across all fronts including battlefield conflicts featuring hundreds of soldiers to coordinated tactical assaults, sabotage, stealth, defend and sniper missions. Experience the camaraderie of a squad, bound together through the chaos of battle but with a shared goal to end Nazis assault on freedom.
Developers Spark, promise through advanced AI, the player's squad will act like a trained military unit using authentic tactics and maneuvers such as laying down suppressing fire, providing cover fire and coordinating attacks on enemy positions; although I must stress this is not a squad based shooter such as Rainbow Six or Conflict Desert Storm. Unlike the PC version players will now experience the war through 6 (not 3) unique player roles with each character carrying a personal and patriotic story. For the first time, play as multiple characters within a campaign, as new roles are revealed through the inter-woven stories which are featured so prominently.
If Spark are able to recreate the tension and gripping gameplay of the PC version this could well be WWII on the Xbox’s Finest Hour!
