X-Men Legends Preview:
Being somewhat of an X-Men fan, I am always looking forward to a game starring these Mutant heroes and this is no exception especially considering the range of characters you are able to control. Legends have been classed as an epic action-RPG (where have we heard that before - Sudeki) where gamers can pick and choose a team of X-Men to combat evil and protect the fate of mankind. The story begins when the X-Men learn that their arch nemesis Magneto has devised a plan to grant mutants the power to reign supreme over the humans and in order to save the human race and prevent global chaos, the X-Men must battle Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants.

Readers of the comics will instantly noticed that the artwork is inspired by the ‘Ultimate X-Men’ series and combines cliffhanging stories penned by former X-Men writers, with action-packed game play and a touch of RPG elements. The main RPG feature of this game is character development. As you progress through the game, your current line up of X-Men gains experience by defeating numerous enemies and solving puzzles. Once you have gained enough experience, your X-Men will level up, issuing you skill points which you can then use to increase one of four attributes; strike, agility, body and focus or have your mutant learn a new special move. Along with this customization, you will get the chance to find new equipment to increase their mutant skills and unlock new characters, costumes and other hidden treasures.

Each mission requires you to build a team of four mutants from the ever-expanding roster of available X-Men, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, but combined with the other three will make a formidable team. So far the X-Men that have been included are; Wolverine, Gambit, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Magma, Beast, Rogue and Iceman. The game allows you to switch between any of the four characters in your team instantly as duty calls in the heat of battle as well as the ability to command allies and teammates to assist in combat. As well as combat each X-Men’s unique power will be called upon to solve the many puzzles and obstacles scattered throughout the missions.

The biggest draw to this game is the ‘Multiplayer’ feature allowing up to you and three friends to experience the epic journey together. In fact, you could start off alone and your mates can jump in at any time. As well as the ‘Dynamic Joining’, several other multiplayer modes are available including a ‘Skirmish Mode’, where players can import their single-player characters and attributes for a head-to-head combat “versus” action for up to four players, or in side-by-side battles against all enemies.

Overall, this game looks to be a real treat for action and comic book fans but more will be revealed the closer the game gets to release date.
