What is SnowBlind? Well, Snow-Blind is a technical military term used to describe a complete shut down of electrical equipment and systems. This shutdown is usually brought about by use of an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) or an electrical interference of some description. The resulting loss of all systems, such as communications and radar means that effectively you are blind and very vulnerable. Crystal Dynamics are developing Snow-Blind the game which is released later this year on all formats. Snow-Blind tells the tale of a near future society at war whereby players can assume the role of an Elite special operations combat soldier. Sounds familiar? Perhaps it is something similar to what we've all played before in countless other games? However SnowBlind promises so much more than just being another generic first person shooter. With competition being very high around the end of the year for games in general, developers are well aware that their game has to offer something the others don't. In Snow-blind players get to use a wide variety of futuristic weapons and hi tech gadgets such as a Riot Wall or "Kicker" physics gun. We are promised a depth of game play never realized before with the use of these technologically advanced weapons. Players will also be able to commandeer a wide variety of vehicles which then can be used as effective weapons or simply used to aid in completing one of the many wide and diverse objectives players will have to face. The missions themselves are said to be a wide mixture of all out battles to covert infiltration missions and much more to keep the player gripped from start to finish. Snow-Blind will offer players the chance to Bio-mod their character in a number of ways. Mods allow the player to use a wide variety of special abilities and superhuman powers. How this will translate in the finished game we do not know as yet but if implemented well sounds interesting. SnowBlind will also feature an excellent team aspect whereby players will be able to build an emotional connection to members of their squad. This means players will be able to aid those in trouble and heal the wounded. This aspect offers more of a tactical slant compared to just simple running and gunning and if realised well could be a welcome feature. Looking at the game as a whole, Snow-blind will offer players the chance to battle through 11 single player missions which takes place across 16 different maps including an opera house and the jungle. Snow-Blind also offers 16 player online play for Xbox Live users where classic game modes can be played as well as some Xbox exclusive game types. Sounding like a cross between Unreal 2 and Deus Ex Snow-Blind is looking very promising indeed. What with Vehicles, Bio-Mods, the unique squad system and the futuristic weapons, Snow-Blind looks and sounds like a game to keep your eyes on. Let's hope it can deliver because so far it seems to offer much more than simple run and gun game play. Preview By: Robert Cram |
