I bet if I mentioned this game to you now, you would say, “Second what?” That was what I said at first but that changed as soon as I started to play this game. This game has stealth, shooters and an explosive storyline all wrapped up in a psychological thriller with psychic powers.
As the game opens you see a man waking up but is tied down to a bed, then all of a sudden his body convulses and the straps break. Is the man that strong? Maybe he has had one too many ‘Airwaves’, the answer is no to both. In fact this man has some sort of psychic power and you control this character. With no memory of his name, where he is and how he got there, it is up to you to try and unravel the past and uncover the truth behind this sinister conspiracy.
Most games have some sort of training level, so you, as the player can get to grips with the basic moves and abilities. This game doesn’t fail you and instantly you are granted with your first psychic power – Telekinesis, the ability to move objects with your mind. You must escape your room and find a way out of wherever you are, and who you are. Simple!!
As you get to grips with the controls, you find out that you were a doctor by the name of John Vattic and were part of a small squad of commandos on a mission to retrieve a rogue scientist. Suddenly, you have a flashback and the action changes to the past showing John as he was and not how he is now. Your basic training continues with you being instructed how to use firearms and targeting. As soon as that finishes, you are instantly transported back to the present day at the exact time you had that flashback.
As you progress in the game, you are constantly haunted by flashbacks, each being a fully playable episode within the game and everything you do having consequences in the present. You must explore both the past and present to understand and unravel the mystery. With each new revelation and an increase in self-awareness, you’re psychic powers increase and existing abilities become more refined. There will be moments in the game when you will need to call upon one of your many powers, whether it is simply to heal yourself, charm, Psi-blast or astral project to another location. Mixing these powers with the vast arsenal of weapons that include machine guns, sniper rifles and shotguns, you are offered multiple approaches to completing the levels either via stealth, gunplay, psychic powers or a combination of all three, the choice is yours.
Watch out for Second Sight, it is going to be one of those games that might just slip under the radar and it would be a shame for any player to miss out on such an exciting and unusual game.
