Hands on Preview
One of the first games I ever bought for the Xbox was a game called ‘Rallisport’. I was amazed !! Well, Rallisport Challenge 2 is the second instalment in the series and it comes with several new features. The main feature that was never included in the original is LIVE. That’s right, Rallisport is Xbox Live and it is the first racing game to be included in the XSN Sports brand.
Of course, I couldn’t play Rallisport 2 on Live as this was a preview code but from what I had played and seen, this game is going to be a real treat and will knock the socks off Project Gotham Racing 2. How can I say that, when PGR2 is fantastic. Simply put, the two games are the same and different. You might race cars in both but that is where all similarity ends. Rallisport concentrates on off-road racing, in fact, the game gives you five unique rally modes which include Rally, Rally Cross, Ice Racing, Hill Climb and Crossover. On top of all that, there are six game modes including Career, Single Race, Time Attack, Multiplayer and Instant Action.
There are over double the amount of tracks in Rallisport 2 than there was in the original featuring tracks from Sweden, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Argentina and Monte Carlo. On top of that, you will be able to race over 40 of the most challenging rally cars from the manufacturers of Hyundai, Renault, Volvo and Ford.
Back to the hands on experience. What you first notice when you start the race is the depth of colour and scenery. The amount of detail that has been used to give you that feeling of being at the track is unreal. The sounds of the engine revving to the commentary of your co-driver letting you know when the next sharp turn is, is spot on. Another feature of racing that has been included and used to it’s full effect is ‘Car Damage’. From broken windows to scratches in the paint to missing hoods, "RalliSport Challenge 2" features an updated graphics engine with realistic vehicle physics complete with damage modeling and performance degradation to test a driver's mettle. Parts such as bumpers, spoilers and rear mirrors will be able to loosen from the car, dangle and eventually drop off. Debris and parts will fall from the car when crashing to make more of a visual impact on the car.
From what I have seen and played, I can tell you that I will be adding this game to my collection because it is going to be massive. The game is huge and with the addition of Live, the game’s future will only die out once they bring out Rallisport Challenge 3. (Which is not in the pipeline…yet)
