Microsoft have announced Week Four of Playoff Fever. Playoff Fever is a simulated highlight reel and statistics that appear every week on xbox.com previewing the upcoming NFL playoff games. All games will be played in incredibly realistic replicas of NFL stadiums using Microsoft Game Studios’ NFL Fever 2002 for the Xbox to simulate the game.
In regular season action, NFL Fever 2002’s artificial intelligence accurately simulated 10 of 14 Monday night games. Last week, the artificial intelligence correctly predicted the Rams but incorrectly predicted the Patriots to run Fever’s playoff record to 6-4. After two weeks of Playoff Fever, the artificial intelligence is a combined 16-8 in Monday night and playoff action. NFL Fever 2002 is 5-0 when predicting games that involve the Rams (including the Bucs over the Rams in St. Louis) and 5-0 when predicting the winner of an NFC playoff game.
Plays like the “The Drive”, “The Fumble”, “The Immaculate Reception” and “The Tackle” are engraved in football fans minds forever. When fans think back on Super Bowl XXXVI as simulated by NFL Fever 2002, they will remember “The Return.” With one minute left to play, the St. Louis Rams were clinging to a 17-7 lead and looking forward to their second Super Bowl crown in three years. What would happen in the next minute would rewrite Super Bowl history? With 57 seconds remaining Tom Brady hit Antwain Smith from 22-yards out for a touchdown. With 50 seconds remaining, the Patriots failed to recover the onside kick. Three great defensive plays later, the Rams were forced to punt to the dangerous Troy Brown. As time expired, Brown returned the punt 92-yards to win the Super Bowl 20-17 on a play that will forever be known as “The Return”.
The Super Bowl win was the first for the New England Patriots. The loss drops the Rams Super Bowl record to 1-2.
