With the new football season just around the corner, Xbox has teamed up with Fantasy League Limited (the inventors of fantasy football) to launch the first ever Xbox Fantasy League® - giving gamers throughout the UK the chance to be this season’s top manager. From Monday 11th August www.playmore.com/xboxfantasyleague will host a Fantasy League microsite where would-be Ferguson’s and Wenger’s can plot their winning formula for the 2003-04 season. They’ll be competing for the prestigious ‘Manager of the Year’ accolade and an all-expenses-paid holiday to Rio de Janeiro. The rules are simple. Each manager has a £50 million budget to spend on 11 players. Once scoring starts on 13th September, managers can transfer a maximum of 20 players during the season, with no more than two from one club. The site will contain player statistics to help managers make those all important decisions, as well as regularly updated league tables and news features. Xbox Fantasy League will also be offering a ‘Manager of the Month’ prize of an Xbox console, four of the latest games, movie playback kit, extra controller, steering wheel and an Xbox Live kit. The Manager of the Year will win a five night stay in Rio de Janeiro, staying at the luxury Copacabana Palace Hotel. The winner will visit the world famous home of Brazilian football – the Maracana Stadium and enjoy a helicopter trip around the city. £500 spending money will also be thrown in. Alongside the consumer site, there will also be a trade site for Xbox Fantasy League, where retailers, publishers, journalists and developers can battle it out throughout the season. In addition to the Xbox Fantasy League site on www.playmore.com/xboxfantasyleague, the Manager of the Week of this year’s Fantasy League Classic competition on www.fantasyleague.com will also win an Xbox and a game. Having already co-sponsored 5ASIDE, the biggest amateur football tournament in Europe at the Powerleague in Hainault, Essex, the launch of the Xbox Fantasy League site on xbox.com is another landmark in Xbox’s continued focus on football in 2003-04.
