The Crackdown demo is now available for download on Xbox Live and comes in at a hefty 1.24 Gb. The demo has both single player and online co-operative play. The demo gives players a 30 minute session and lets them explore about half the district which belongs to the 'Los Muertos' gang, the other two gang districts will be blocked off. Crackdown allows player to play as a super cop who has super human qualities which can improve over time, since the demo is timed, the developers have stated that the time needed to level up abilities has been reduced to take into account the time limit, however in the full game which is released in February levelling up will take longer. Crackdown is being developed by Real Time Worlds and will be published by Microsoft game studios exclusively for the Xbox 360, the developing team is being headed by Dave Jones who was the genius behind top selling games such as the Lemmings and GTA series. It was announced last week that Crackdown had gone gold, it has been in the news for including Halo 3 beta invites when it is released later next month, however if you are stil unsure whether the demo is worth downloading or want more information on the full game, then check out our Crackdown section which has plenty of videos and screenshots which can be found here.

me either, i think it is very weak and other than the Halo 3 beta code i would suggest there is little point buying this one. Dave Jones has missed the mark with Crackdown by a million miles if you ask me and adding the ability to jump and climb to the rooftops has added little or nothing to the genre for me biggrin.gif

If it wasn't for the Halo 3 beta code offer Crackdown would be removed from my pre orders!

It could have loads for me.. thing is tho i get the impression that its gonna be very samey, kinda reminds me of a futuristic saints row played from a good guys perspective with one or 2 tweaks. i may rent/borrow it to see if i can get into it but i very much doubt it.

I love the city level design and the jumping with maxed out agility is captured very well. However I do have doubts over the game's long term appeal. I am confident that with the right team mate co-op on the hardest setting will be a very good challenge but that alienates all those without Live (which is the majority).

I am very keen to hear what Slam has to say about the game and whether his Scottish patriotism will get the better of him..lol

it has way less to do than Saints Row it has 18 bosses and 3 kingpins to take out and othert than not a lot other than some car races, roof top races and 39 stunt challenges (which you do in the cars) what else does it offer? Oh hand on 500 orbs to collect to build up agility and 300 orbes which are only save points and serve no purpose as it saves when you exit the game "wow" thanks Dave for such a mind blowing and original game "NOT"

Did anyone notice that the music which plays during the intro movie on the demo is also in Saints Row... I like drum and bass hence why I noticed it.

I found it to much like justCause with the missions and that, they have some inventive ways to travel in these games

i agree it is like just cause more than say GTA or Saints Row and repetative and lacking variation is a great description of why!

Basically it's an ok game which will hopefully fill a void for a short time untill the next game comes along but it won't be winning any awards for originality

Something fun to try if you are bored.

Max out your strength stat by simply using melee attacks over and over. Should take 10 mins or so.
Now go to any junction with plenty of traffic and start piling up vehicles. I managed 15 odd including a massive bus/coach. You can drop items (sort of) by pressing B rather than throwing them.

Now chuck a grenade into the pile and watch the most amazing of explosions if you get it right. Totally awesome although I cant see how usefull this would be during normal gameplay.
