Bethesda today announced that the Shivering Isles expansion pack for their Game of the Year TES: Oblivion will be available for download on the Marketplace sometime this spring. They claim the expansion will provide gamers with 30 hours of new content. Players can either use their existing character from the first game or create a new one specifically for the expansion. There will be over a dozen new types of enemies to fight including skeletal shambles, amphibious Gummites and Flesh Atronachs as well as new items and spells. Bethesda also took the oppertunity to announce that Oblivion sales have reached the 3 million mark meaning that it is one of the most popular 360 games to date.

QUOTE
The expansion will offer 30-plus hours of new adventuring, features new quests, monsters, expanded freeform gameplay - quest lines that branch more than before, for example - and a new land "that you can watch change according to your vital life-or-death decisions".

Setting the scene, it's explained that an ominous-looking gate has opened in Nibben Bay, the portal leading to a torn realm - the Shivering Isles - ruled by Sheogorath, the god of madness and dementia. Apparently, adventurers will meet the god and "plough through his trials", but it's additionally hinted that ultimately we may well be usurping the deity. A ETA of Q2 2007 has been given.
