Outspoken lawyer Jack Thompson has recently stated that he is to attempt to stop the sale of the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto 4 to minors which is to be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 some time this year. Thompson has sent a letter to Microsoft with his plea that adult rated titles should not be available to minors. The fact of the matter remains that it is retailers who ultimately have to enforce any rules. The real problem stems with ignorant parents who perhaps feel that their kids are immune to violent video games and those who simply buy the game regardless of the rating for their children. Perhaps Thompson should target the people who really count, as letters to Microsoft aren't really going to have an effect.

never heard of the guy but what a p***k as if a console manufacturer can control who plays what games. Microsoft have added parent settings to the console and all games have parental controls built in so a minor can't play a game if the parent sees fit to set up the system but lets face it little billy the 10 year old walking in to Electronic Boutique is probably not being sold GTA 4 but when accompanied by his mum, dad, brother or sister who are 18+ who proceed to buy the game for him what can anyone do?

The only police for what game a child can or can't play that exists is the parents and thats where the buck stops and not with the game makers and not with the console manufacturers if the press and fools like Thompson targeted the parents and educating them then that would be more benificial but writing to microsoft will achieve nothing what so ever.

Some of Thompson's ideas are admirable but his methods are usually a little off key imo.

Well he is not dissing the game, merely stating that it should not be sold to minors which is fair enough. If only he would target Xbox Live and stop the kids from ruining the enjoyment for others. Ahem..
