According to an ad in the latest issue of Gamepro, Microsoft will start selling Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta invitations for $60 beginning February 20 -- oh, and each golden ticket comes with a game called Crackdown.

Is this still a rumour?

Also, get Crackdown for free? Dave Jones is a better deveopler than the whole Bungie team put together! Crackdown will be a better game than Halo 3!

Hmmm this is weird marketing. So what, Halo betas are going to ship with every game now to bolster sales?

Bungie must be desperate for beta testers if they are giving them away in such a high quality game!

I'm sure most people will consider that they're in fact paying for the Halo 3 BETA and having CrackDown for free would be a bonus.

I like the idea of it anyway, CrackDown looks to be a good game and should tempt people to buy it who are unsure about it. Though I'm sure the demo will do that when it's released next month (I think?).

hmm, doesnt sound right to me, has it been confirmed? Bungie dont seem the type to sell out and hand out betas with another game, especially for Halo 3

I agree, it's not a case of anything other than it being a bonus when buying Crackdown. Microsoft are the publishers of both titles and as an incentive they are offering the Halo 3 beta entry too people who buy Crackdown, personally i think it's apretty cool idea.

well bungie always said that there would be "more" ways to get into the beta... to the point where everyone that "wanted" to get in could. I guess this is just another one of those ways anyone can get their golden ticket.

Well it appears that UK copies of CrackDown will also ship with the Halo 3 BETA invite.

Well at least it appears that way according to an email I received from GAME.co.uk:
"Welcome to the GAME Update!

The mean green machine known only as The Master Chief is set to debut on Xbox 360 in the eagerly-awaited Halo 3 during 2007, and we can't wait!

The great news is, we won't have to wait and neither will you - the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta Test begins in the Spring and if you buy the upcoming Xbox 360 title Crackdown (see below) you'll get an invitation to take part during the final months of testing, tweaking and polishing!"

When the Halo 3 multiplayer beta surfaces in spring 2007, owners of Crackdown simply need to load their copy of Crackdown into their Xbox 360 and use the disc as a key to download the Halo 3 multiplayer beta from Xbox LiveŽ Marketplace and join the battle.

This thing where we get to play Halo 3 because of purchasing CrackDown reminds me of something on the PS2... I'm not sure how many people here owned PS2's but I remember buying Zone of the Enders just to play the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo which came with it - ZOE was pretty cack, though its not my type of game to comment on - but the demo was worth the money to me.
