SOUL GAUGE & CRITICAL FINISH SYSTEM/ IMPACTS

Soul Calibur IV features a new Critical Finish system. On screen there is a new gauge under the characters' Health Meter, called the Soul Gauge. This meter fills up when attacking and decreases when guarding (indicated by colour change from Blue to Red). When the meter is empty, the opponent can attack which breaks off a part of the recipients armor, altering their appearance and making them weaker for the remainder of the match. There are also three green boxes below the gauges, reflecting the state of the characters armor: high, mid, or low.

If the character manages to empty out the opponent's Soul Gauge again, they will get a short chance to perform a unique Critical Finish move, which will kill the opponent instantly, This is done by pressing all four face buttons at the same time or a designated shoulder button (LB Xbox 360). Each character has their own unique Critical Finish move. Try the training modes to practice these new game concepts.

IMPACTS - These are effectively parry counters and are performed by pressing forward+ A or X just as an opponents attack is about to strike. You'll see a Green/Blue or Red flash effect when successful. You can set custom characters to do this automatically. Just Impacts are the same but require more precise timing they are indicated by a RED flash. Guard Impacts are GREEN flashes and Parry Impacts are Blue. For parry Impacts press Back+A or (X on PS3).

The best way to get Just Impacts is to create a high defense character and equip them with Master Impact skill which makes every impact you perform manually a Just Impact. Combining Auto Impact and Master Impact does not gain you Just Impacts. If you fight in Story mode the scoring below your health bar will flash Master when you perform a Just Impact (with Master Impact skill equipped of course).

Tower of Lost Souls overview:

Soul Calibur IV features a Tower of Lost Souls where you get to choose one, two or three characters (although they can all be the same if you choose (with different outfits). You have to embark on clearing floors in succession. Each section has a specific number of floors to beat and will often pit you against more than one opponent. There are various handicaps and characters can use weapon/skill abilities to aid them - these can be changed in the character creation mode once you've leveled up your chosen ones.

Beating floors with certain conditions can unlock treasure chests which gains extra equipment or gold. You can ascend the tower and then descend it (once you've ascended to level 20). Floors are often grouped into stages, and so you can repeat stages, and if you have beaten a stage you can resume from where you left off, without having to start over. Make sure you create characters suited to the challenges that are specific to certain floors. On the floor select screen you can see what treasures you've unlocked already, and once you've beaten a floor and not unlocked the treasure; the next time you play a hint is given at the start of the fight.

NOTE: There are other ways in the game to unlock the items that appear in the tower. You can unlock items by gaining Honors (per 5 Honors you gain, new items become available. If you already have an item and fulfill the Tower requirement, then you will gain GOLD instead of the item. If you've already gained around 30 honors and are merely after the achievement for beating the Ascend Tower, then you can ignore the treasure tasks and just focus on beating the last few levels.

Tower of Lost Souls :Ascending - items Guide

Floors 1-2

1F - Soldier's Hat, clear stage while taking no damage
2F - Warrior Trousers, clear stage with no ring outs from either side

Floors 3-4

3F - Pauldron, switch with ally more than 2 times (Press RB or R1 to switch characters)
4F - Warlord's Belt, perform 3 attack throws - foward Y (triangle) with Shura (Attack throws are marked as AT in the command lists).

Floors 5-7

5F - Clergy Clothes, defeated an enemy with a ring out (use Shura's forward, hold forward Y (triangle) attack)
6F - Wonder Jacket, threw an opponent

7F - Warrior Trousers, cleared the stage without missing any attacks - simply do a quick single attack at the start of the round and then continually grab for the rest of the fight. Make sure you duck a lot and only go for the grab after Lizard has attacked you first. If you use a High HP and Impact character this helps - Taki has good grab range.

Floors 8-10

8F - Armor Ring: Ice Mirror, switch characters twice
9F - Scarlett Blossoms, guarded the opponent's attack 3 times in a row

l0F - Silver Boots, guarded the opponent's attack 10 times in a row - be wary of Cervantes constant low attacks. You can simply stand there and continuously block and you might get lucky. The best way is to anticipate the low attacks which are obvious as he tends to twist his body a little before unleashing. Use high HP characters due to being thrown.

Floor 11

11F - Grim Horn, defeated all enemies with a critical finish

Floor 12-14

12F - Magus Cloth, defeated all enemies with ring out - Use Yun-Seong and Left Trigger Throw - Place back to to the crash-able fence to open up the area where ring outs are easily performed. Throw opponent into fence. Then place your back to the abyss and throw the enemies (LT or L1) when they are close.

13F -Pegasus Sallet, destroy all the walls - Position yourself with back against the wall and let CPU attack with a smash attack which knocks you into the wall. Use a high HP character. Or use the same Yun-Seong throw technique.

14F - Phantom Pavilion: Seesaw, performed guard impact more than 3 times (forward+A (or X)

Floors 15-17

15F - Submissions Belt, clear the stage using only the A and G buttons (A and X) or (Square and X)

16F - Warlord's Belt, clear the stage with 0 time remaining - keep grabbing the two skeletons to win as quick as possible. Then take down the third skeleton's health to a slither. avoid his aggression in the last seconds of the round and then as the timer reaches 1 grab him for victory.

17F - Arm Bandages, execute a 5+ combo - use Maxi and keep pressing Y+B as fast as you can against an attacking opponent. You'll get 8+ combo.

Floors 18-20

18F - Kouchu Kabuto, stood on all corners of the stage
19F - Longhua Qippo, switch with ally more than 5 times
20F - Life Gem: Sun, cleared the stage with a critical finish

Floors 21-23

21F - Longhua Qippo, voluntarily performed a ring out - Use Taki and stand near the edge and press X+B (Square+Circle) to jump into the water. You do need to be close to your opponent.

22F - Honor boots, perform more than 4 counter hits
23F - Frilled skirt, guard more than 3 times in a row

Floors 24-26

24F - Protect Gem: Cardinal directions, Perform a combo with more than 240 damage - for a 240+ damage combo create a male or female Astaroth with maximum attack stats and buy the 8000 Great Maul weapon. Then perform a quarter circle movement forwards on the d-pad or stick and then press Y+B (Triangle+Circle) then follow up with Y,Y (Triangle, Triangle) you should get around 259 damage although I've gotten 283 with a female whose attack stat is 173%. Don't confuse this with the other unblockable attack which uses Y instead of Y+B. You can also do this using the detailed Astaroth's spam combo detailed below.

25F - Zhuque Changpao, threw more than 5 times

26F - Warthog Cuirass, executed a 10+ combo - Use AMY based character then simply -- forward B (to kick stun) then, Forward Y+B, then Immediately Back Y+B 10 hits easily. (PS3 Forward circle, then Forward triangle+circle, then Back triangle circle).

Floors 27-29

27F - Iron Gauntlets, cleared the stage with no damage taken

28F - Aculeus Suit, opponent guarded a guard break attack at least twice - use Yun-Seong's forward+Y,Y and you should get it easily

29F - Menghu Boots, switch with ally 5+ times

Floors 30-32

30F - Spirit Gem: Noniple Heads, clear stage without guarding

31F - Longming Qippo, perform 5+ Just Inputs - create a character which has Master Impact then press forward and A (or X for PS3) as a strike against you is going to connect. With Master Impact, each one you perform will be a Just Impact. Sadly equipping Auto Impact A and Master Impact will not gain you Just Impacts.

32F - Vane Mask, perform a low throw

Floors 33-35

33F - Battle dress, perform 3 attack throws

34F - Power Gem: warrior Princess, perform guard impact 3+ times - Create a character with Auto Impact A.

35F - Warthog Pauldrons, clear without switching

Floors 36-38

36F - Parlor Blouse, clear stage with 0 time remaining - quickly beat up the first two characters with a high HP team and on the last opponent take down his health to almost zero and then block until the timer reaches 1/0 immediately perform a final grab move.

37F - Siren's helm, defeat all enemies with critical finishes - keep spamming forward+Y Y (Triangle) with Yun-Seong based character. Don't miss the Soul Crush as time is limited. Use a high attack character in one slot and a high defense in the other. Only use the high defense character if your attack character is low on HP.

38F - Gorgon Fauld, defeat all enemies with ring out

Floors 39-41

39F - Kingfisher Greaves, clear the stage without changing position
40F - Deer Head, execute a 5+ combo - see floor 26 - use a high defense Amy
41F - Minotaur, perform 5+ Just Inputs - see floor 31 - use a high defense high HP character

Floors 42-44

42F - Demonic Gloves, clear the stage without letting opponents invoke a skill - be aggressive and don't let up.
43F - Repel Gem: Iron Shell, perform an over the back throw - side step as an opponent is running into the ring and immediately throw.
44F - War Cloak, no ring outs either side

Floors 45-46

45F - Tiger Lily Kabuto, Defeat enemies without using any skills - basic character to be used here use the high stat template posted below.
46F - Butterfly salet, Defeat enemies without using any skills - same as above.

Floors 47-49

47F - Succubus Boots, throw 5 times
48F - Life Dem: Jade, Clear stage with a character equipped with the "invisible" skill
49F - Horns of Calamity, clear stage with no attacks missing

Floors 50-52

50F - Tiger Lily Breastplates, execute a 10+combo - see floor 26
51F - Tiger Lily Fauld, perform more than 4 counter hits - use a fast attacking character.

52F - Feathered Wings, clear stage with a critical finish - this should be easy enough with the Yun-Seong high stat characters posted below, the first two floors should be no problems, but by the time you get here, no doubt your health will be depleted somewhat seeing as you are alone for these floors.

These guys switch frequently and are tough to ring out. Plus they are all fast poke characters that are good at Impacts. Your best bet is to try and seize the opportunity to side step and throw often. Yun Seong's BACK+B kick works very well against them if they keep trying to counter hit you after each hit you inflict. This works especially well when they are trapped against the edge of the ring. Side stepping is a good tactic seeing as most of their moves are vertical based thrusts and pokes.

If you're going for the treasure then wear them down continuously with Yun-Seong's Forward+Y,Y (Triangle) attack and make sure you critical finish the last standing opponent.

The best combo with Yun Seong is to Forward+Y,Y then Y,Y into BACK +B or B,B,B then repeat. This should enable you to perform the final critical finish.

Floors 53-56

53F - Blade Ring: Demon Lord, defeat all enemies with a ring out - Vs Voldo's use same tactic as before - try and throw force them back against ring edge and throw them out.

54F - Leviathan Pauldron, destroy all the walls - Vs Yoshimitsu's smash them against the fences

55F - Priestess Kimono, perform 3 attack throws - Vs Astaroth's - same tech as earlier. These guys are very defensive though so you'll have to counter hit them if you can.

56F - Leviathan Burgonet, perform a combo with more than 240 damage Vs hyped up Lizardmen. Avoid the venom attack they inflict if you get grounded. Use the same Astaroth character that you used earlier. You can use the spam attack combo with the kick to get this as well. (see detailed description below).

Floors 57-59

57F - Voodoo Armlets, voluntarily perform a ring out - use the same leaping character as before (Taki is good).
58F - Tiger Pauldrons, defeat all enemies without any skills equipped - use a basic High HP/Def character.
59F - Voodoo Greaves, guard an enemies attack 10 times in a row

Floors 60 final floor

60F - Voodoo Breastplate, clear the stage without switching characters - This is versus Algol try and let him jump out the ring to get lots of cash (back up near the edge of ring and get knocked to the ground and just stay there- do not get up to attack. You can repeat this stage to gain around 12,000 cash quickly.

Tower of Lost Souls items Guide Descend & general tips

Descend 5 floors - Dark Knight's Cloak - Ellie lurks on this floor
Descend 10 floors - Blade Ring: Raging Thunder
Descend 15 floors - Lapin Chapeau - Silvia lurks here

Descend 20 floors- Repel Gem:Fox Demon - watch out for the Invisible character on this floor if you're trying to go beyond here. Luckily you get the achievement for just reaching this floor.

Descend 25 floors- Succubus Gauntlets - beat Ellie and Silvia!
Descend 30 floors- Demonic Armor
Descend 35 floors- Demonic Pauldrons
Descend 40 floors- Voodoo Crown

General Tips

Simply fight your way down through the levels without losing the one partner you have. Try and build high defense or HP characters in create a character to stand a better chance. Make sure you use your switch efficiently so that your non active partner heals. Be wary of the timer, take too long and it will run out during latter stages. Also HP Drain A is useful for the attacking character, as they can gain tiny amounts of health whilst fighting.

A great set up other than using Astaroth's cheap spamming attack over and over is to create a character with Auto Impact A, Impact Edge, HP Drain A and Nullify Ring Out A,B or C. Simply copy the character into a blank slot and use these. It's optional if you want to mess with the colours of the clothing for your own benefit.

A crucial tip in the early floors is to win as quick as possible as the timer adds overall and when things get more difficult you really need as much time as possible. In my experience the AI is weak against throws and ring outs. If you can get the ring outs by throws early on then this is a perfect way to build up time against overly blocking opponents.

Another easy thing to do that seems to work early on is when you've KO'd an opponent and the next attacker runs in, keep side stepping and throw them as soon as they run in. This seems to work quite often and can give you a edge if you're low on health and need HP Drain to work for you.

Watch out for the super enemies such as Ellie on Stage 5 and Silvia on stage 15. These Cat suit wearing women, might look silly but they have uber skills and can often ruin your chances by lowering your health (or worse) for both characters severely. What's worse is on floor 25 you get to fight both Ellie and Silvia!

Watch out for cheap ring outs, because once this happens, you might as well start over. The Nullify Ring Out C will help but is not a guarantee. So make sure you don't position yourself badly.

Always check your opponents skills on the loading screen. It's easy to ignore these, but they do give you a good idea of whether throws or fast attacks will work or not.

Advanced Tips

Utilize those ring outs effectively, especially with characters whose throw moves push the opponents forwards. By pushing opponents back towards the ring edge you'll be able to perform those rings outs very easily. An advanced tip is once an opponent has been thrown out and the 2nd is about to run in. If you back up away from the edge so that you're just off screen slightly. The next opponent will run in from the front, often allowing you to immediately throw them out of the ring.

Unblockable attacks for the 2nd opponent running in can give you a massive advantage. It's rare that a character will run in and attack, so with careful timing you'll most often be able to punish them before they get a chance to strike. Look at the letters K.O and and use this as a gauge to when you should start your attack so that it lands on the opponent running in.

Stun switching combos. The harder AI does this a lot and it can make a huge difference to battles. If one of your fighters stuns an opponent, use the split second you get to switch character, and finish off the combo. This takes practice, but can really mess with the AI if done correctly.

Astaroth Spam combo method

This is a commonly used method and one that works well on the last few floors ascending but can equally net you great results descending as well. It can get a little mundane though.

We'll use female Astaroth as an example here.

1. Create a female with Astaroth's character (level 8 minimum) and equip the following items.

Head - Winged Circlet
Face - Fox Mask
Neck - War Cloak
Shoulders - Punishment Spaulders
Underware - Tiger Lily Stockings
Upper Body - Ashigaru Shirt
Arms - Gorgon Gauntlets
Lower Body - Roman Belt
Legs - Laced Stockings
Feet - Polar Boots

2. Equip the Great Maul Weapon

3. Use these skills - HP Drain A, Auto Counter B, and Appeal (or whatever is left)

This combination gives you

165% Attack
112% Defense
90% HP - despite having low HP the HP Drain and the attacks you use should keep refilling any damage taken. You can also have a partner who is the same so that you can swap and let the damaged one heal up.

You can obviously mix and match to change skills to whatever you prefer as long as you keep the damage around 160-180.

Now during fights hold Back and Down on the D-pad or Stick (Diagonal) and press and hold X to charge up and then press Y. Thats Square and Triangle on the PS3. if you opponent bounces after the 2nd hit then you can hit them with another attack, a kick works well. Just keep repeating this combo and see how far you get. If you don't charge the first part of the combo, then the second part won't work, although even this basic attack is very damaging.

High HP & Defense template

To make reaching floor 20 and beyond much easier here's an Uber stats template that should work with most female characters that have an evenly balanced weapon equipped (each character has a weapon with even skills).

1. Create female (use Yun-Seong as an example) - make sure she's maxed out at level 9.
2.Select your skills first so you can see what points you need - Use the following skills

HP Drain A
Auto Impact C
Nullify Ring Out C
Hysterical Strength

3.Select weapon (in Yun Seong's case, Giant Butcher Knife) although with other characters choose one that has overall balanced skills.

4.Choose the following equipment, you'll most likely have to have earned a number of honors before you can use some of these.

Head - Gorgon Armlet
Face - None
Neck - Feathered Wings
Shoulders - Gorgon Spaulders
Underware - Sarashi
Upper Body - Gorgon Curass
Arms - Gorgon Gauntlets
Lower Body - Gorgon Fauld
Legware - Shinobi Tabi
Feet - Gorgon Greaves
Special - None.

5.This set up will now give you the following stats which in my experience is pretty hard to get any better at present other than the relatively average attack power. The CPU effectively has to fight four characters and due to their stats. The HP Drain A makes this character extremely tough to actually KO. Your worst enemy is going to be the ring out or the timer running out.

Attack 110%
Defense 146%
HP 170%

6. Copy the character into a blank slot and now choose both of these for tackling the descend Tower of Souls. You'll most likely be able to take quite a few hits due to the high defense and HP and make light work of most enemies until you reach floors 13 and beyond. However with careful switching your HP bars and general high defense makes things a lot easier. The worst thing that can happen is being knocked out of the ring, but if you are far enough it's still possible to carry on with just the one character due to those impressive Defense and HP stats and the HP Drain A. Your other worst enemy is the timer, but if you follow the tips posted earlier then this shouldn't pose a problem.

ADVANCED TIPS FOR USING ABOVE TEMPLATE WITH YUN-SEONG BASED CHARACTER

-The early floors are pretty easy as you are most likely able to continually throw opponents (which also nets you a decent chunk of health due to the HP Drain A. Use Y+B (Triangle+ Circle) rather than the slower Left Trigger throw. You can map this to the Right Trigger if you find it easier.

-A good tactic throughout is to start the round by running up to opponent and throwing them. Alternatively, and this works well against the more tougher opponents later on is to hammer them with the Forward+Y,Y (Triangle on PS3) move - although be wary of side stepping opponents. This stuns them and allows you to keep following it up with the same move. If they keep blocking then they set themselves up for being Soul Crushed - the down side is that it's a time consuming move against the blockers. The best use of this move is to keep using it to drive them back to the edge of the ring and then once they are stunned move in quick and grab them with the Y+B (Triangle+Circle) throw. For the most part you'll get a neat ring out netting you some additional time.

-From the position above after ringing out the first opponent, if you continuously side step (hold UP or DOWN), as the next opponent runs in you'll often grab them from behind allowing you to humorously throw them out of the ring.

-For opponents that are more aggressive and are cornered by the ring edge but seem to throw break a lot or duck your throw attempts, the three kick combo B,B,B (Circle on PS3) is good for pinning them, even if they block all three. On the forth attack do a low kick by pressing DOWN B to thrown them off guard. The best move for overly aggressive opponents is to continuously use the BACK+B spinning kick, for some reason the aggressive AI can't seem to shake this move as they try and get out of being pinned from the B,B,B high kick combo.

-If you want to aim for a quick ring out without a throw then BACK+Y (Triangle) followed by B,B is great - although can be blocked.

-Be wary of those enemies with Impact Edge, and Auto Impact A,B or C. It's probably best to keep throwing these.

When or if the BLUE part of the health becomes depleted, simply switch to the other team mate if you're not confident in gaining it back Via HP Drain.

USEFUL MOVES with YUN-SEONG.

So in a nutshell here are the few moves that you can use to reach floor 20 and beyond - letters denote actual controller buttons .

FORWARD+Y,Y (Triangle on PS3)
Y,Y
Hold UP or DOWN to sidestep then press X (Square on PS3) to attack sidestepping opponent - although used rarely.
B,B,B (Circle on PS3)
BACK+Y (Triangle) followed by B,B
BACK+B
DOWN+B - low sweep kick
Y+B (Triangle+Circle) throw
Tap FORWARD, FORWARD, Y (at longer range to smash opponent with a heavy attack)

custom created characters examples.

CHARACTER CREATION:

In Soul Calibur IV you can edit existing characters or by highlighting the center icon on the character select screen (the one with two characters) create a new one from scratch. Naturally, if you edit an existing character you won't be able to edit their physical form other than hair style and clothing.

EDITING ORIGINAL CHARACTERS.

Go to character create, select the character you want. Where is says (Customized) press A (or X). Then choose 1P or 2P costume from the list, press A or X again. Press RIGHT on D-pad and you can now change colours. Including hair colours.

You can use an auto template for new characters by messing around with the following options.

Option 1 - Male or Female

Option 2 - Choose a fighting style from the normal characters

Option 3 - Choose Equipment trait (none/light armor/heavy armor/standard equipment)

Option 4 -Choose Battle trait (none/attack focus/defense focus/HP focus/maximum defense/maximum attack/maximum HP/concentrated skill type/dispersed skill type/HP focus)

Option 5 - Choose Alignment (none/good/evil)

Then you can Auto- Generate - you can then edit this character or change traits or generate again using same conditions.

Character Creation Options

You can tweak the follow areas of all characters although as mentioned already you won't be able to change certain attribute if you're editing an existing character.

-Change the entire equipment set in one go

-Change head equipment (headbands, masks, helmets etc)

-Change face equipment (glasses, masks etc)

-Change neck equipment (scarves ribbons etc)

-Change shoulder equipment (armor such as spaulders)

-Change undergarments (chain mail, leggings, shirts etc - although these are likely to get covered up)

-Change upper body equipment (shirts, breastplates, dresses, tunics, robes etc)

-Change arm equipment (gloves, armlets etc)

-Change lower body equipment (skirts, trousers, belts etc)

-Change ankle equipment (socks, bandages, stockings etc)

-Change leg equipment (shoes, boots etc)

-Change special equipment

Using tabs (pressing left or right on the d-pad) you can then edit the colours of each of these, with some having more than one colour option.

Changing Physical Attributes

For new characters you can edit the following areas:

Physique - change mass and muscularity (although you won't notice muscle changes as well if your character is already fully clothed).

Voice - there are several templates (more can be unlocked) and here you can change the pitch +50 or -50. You get a looped audio sample as a reference.

Hair Style - there are a number of templates with more being unlocked as you purchase new characters and play.

Face - You can choose from 8 female face templates by default and 20 male faces.

Change Hair Color - some will allow for multiple colors. You can choose two shades for most.

Change Eye Brows and Facial Hair

Change Eye Color

Change Skin Color

Change Color of Base Equipment
- this changes the basic underwear colour such as bra and panties.

Each character then has various weapons with differing attributes you can then equip. Some will need to be purchased and some will have abilities in the slots.

Skills Overview

Each character has four available slots although some can be filled if using a weapon with special abilities. There are five main attributes (listed below) although the skills that you select have a points requirement, which means if you do not have the required points you won't be able to add that skill. To gain more points you need to level up your character and change weapons first. You cannot stack skills over your maximum limit. The effects of skills can either a constant effect, a chance effect or entered manually by pressing A+B+K simultaneously.

ACHIEVEMENTS/HONORS:

The game features an in built guide for obtaining achievements in the museum (called Honors) where you can check your progress of how close you are to completing certain tasks.

Encounter with the Unknown 10
Fight against Yoda. - choose Apprentice in Arcade mode and Yoda appears in stage 7 - you'll have to unlock Apprentice first.

Pursuer of the Secret
10
Clear STORY MODE on difficulty: NORMAL.

Mystery of the Swords
20
Clear STORY MODE on difficulty: HARD.

May the Force be with You 20
Clear STORY MODE with Yoda.

War Veteran 10
Clear ARCADE MODE - just clear it, don't worry about continues.

Hero on the Battlefield 20
Clear ARCADE MODE with over 450,000 points. - try and gain as many perfects in the early stages (you get 15,000 points per perfect) - don't lose any rounds. Also bear in mind that you get 1000 points for each Soul Crush and 10,000 for each Critical Strike. You'll also get an accumulated bonus if you don't lose any rounds, starting at 1000 then doubling up each time (every two rounds) leaving you a nice 64,000 bonus at the end (and total over the entire mode 125,000) - although you'll lose this multiplier if you lose a round or restart (Apprentice on stage 7 being the opponent most likely to break this) . You can restart each round if you fail to get either a perfect or Critical Strike. The latter stages are easier to get the critical strike rather than aiming for perfects. Yung-seong based characters are great for these with spamming the forward+Y,Y (triangle on PS3) move mixed in with a few kicks and throws to spice things up.

Another great character to get some easy perfects early on is Mitsurugi and his Down+Back X (Square on PS3) low sweep - this works wonders against grounded foes. The sweep move works well throughout the mode and whilst a cheap tactic might just get you through without too much fuss. It also means you'll avoid facing fast recovery barge Astaroth who can be a pain for tapping you. Apprentice seems to fall foul of it often. Just remember that if you spam it a few times and the AI blocks, to mix in another move or pause before sweeping again.

Legendary Hidden Treasures 20
Acquire over 30 treasures in TOWER OF LOST SOULS - see extensive guide above .

Never Ending Advance 20
Descend 20 floors in TOWER OF LOST SOULS - see extensive guide above.

Tower's New Guardian 30
Clear all upper floors of TOWER OF LOST SOULS - see extensive guide above, although clearing is easier than trying to obtain the treasures.

Scorpion's Sting 10
Win a battle with Critical Finish. - Press LB (L1) or A+B+K+G once opponents HP gauge is red and you've stun attacked them (they flash). So in a nutshell, keep attacking a blocking opponent. When their health bar flashes red this means you are able to perform a Soul Crush. To do this, keep attacking your opponent without taking any hits yourself. Once you perform the Soul Crush (your opponent will stagger back for a split second, press the LB button quickly and you'll perform a Critical Finish - you have a very small window of opportunity to do this, so be careful and try and do single move attacks when you "feel" that they are about to get Soul Crushed.

Smasher 10
Destroy all of the opponent's equipment. - create a weak attacking character (max defense) then keep attacking high, mid and low. Or play long 5 rounds online. Does not work vs CPU in versus mode. Play Tower ascending Floor 11 where they have high defense or versus Hilde who blocks a lot - hard arcade mode is best.

Iron Hammer
10
Land an attack on a taunting opponent. - you'll get this if you fight often without much effort at all.

Death on the Battlefield 30
Perform 100 Critical Finishes. - Use Yun-Seong and keep using forward+Y,Y (triangle) attack you'll get the timing when to press LB or L1 after the Soul Crush is performed.

Like a Flowing Stream 20
Perform 200 Impacts. - When opponent attacks, hit forward and A immediately. You'll see a flash effect or battle with a character who has Auto Impact A and generally block a lot in your battles.

Lost in the Moment 30
Perform 20 Just Impacts. - Create a high defense character with Master Impact skill and then perform impacts by pressing forward+A (or X for PS3). Try the first stage on Story Mode (Hard difficulty) for best results. If you die just keep replaying until you get the achievement over so many rounds.

Quick Strike 10
Perform 5 First Attacks in a row in Arcade. - as the round starts immediately run up to your opponent and grab.

Swift Strike 20
Perform 100 First Attacks. Throws work just as well as normal attacks.

Mad Destroyer
20
Perform 100 Soul Crushes. - When opponent's health bar is flashing red, keep attacking to Soul Crush them until they are stunned.

Violent Storm
20
Perform 50 Wall Hits. - knock opponent off walls

10,000 Strikes of Proof
30
Land 10,000 attacks.

Endure 1,000 30
Guard 1,000 times against attacks.

Water Moon
20
Perform 30 grapple breaks - create a high defense character with Auto Grapple Break A

Distance will not Betray
20
Reach over 10,000 meters in total movement distance in battle - side step and run a lot.

First Step as an Artist 5
Customize a regular character - in the character create mode select a regular character and then choose an empty slot. There is an option to customize the character's third outfit.

Chosen by History 5
Create a custom character.

Sharpened Teeth 20
Maximize a style's level. - Keep fighting in any mode other than versus with the same character (or custom edit) until you reach level 9. Points are gained in story, tower and arcade mode win or lose. When there are more characters on your team, remember that it's the character who performs the KO who gets the points, not the character on standby.

Equal Skill and Power 20
Use all skill points and set up 4 skills. - create character that uses all skill points available (use low level skills or use template below - some items may need to be unlocked).

1.Create female character and use Taki template (base character at level 1)
2.Select the Kagenui weapon
3.Use the following clothing

Head - Feather Beret
Face - None
Neck - Fur Scarf
Shoulder - Pauldrons
Undergarments - none
Upper body - none
Arms - Leather Gloves
Lower body - Roman Belt
Ankle - Shinobi Tabi
Feet - none

4.Use the following skills

Shave Damage C
Nullify Counter C
Hysterical Strength
Soul Gauge Damage C

Engraved into History 30
Fight 100 times (Online) - this can actually be done in Player and Ranked modes.

World Class Fighter 30
Fight against 20 different fighting styles (Online). Seeing as you'll probably face Kilik, Maxi and Cervantes more than anyone else, due to peoples preferences, you might want to team up in player matches with a friend to get this.

World Traveler 30
Fight on all stages (Online) - see stage list above. Don't forget the seesaw stage which is unlocked via the Tower of Souls. Although if your opponent has it unlocked already you can ask him/her to select that.

Gladiator 20
Win consecutive Ranked Matches (Online). You only need 1 or two consecutive wins to get this.

Unknown Swordsman 20
Win 10 times (Online) - this can be player match or ranked matches.

Hero King 30
Level up to 20 (Online) - you're going to need to win around 80 fights with few losses - if you lose, you lose points so this only delays you.

Divine Punishment 20
K.O. with an Unblockable Attack. - timing is crucial but Lizard's down/back +B+Y(triangle+Circle) works well.

Reversal Wizard
20
Win 20 times with low HP - make sure your HP is literally on the last few blocks.

Phoenix 10
Win with all equipment destroyed. - create high HP/defense character and block a lot (be careful of throws) Try stage with mulitple opponents (tower floor 24 is a good one to try). Arcade mode on Hard is very good on a stage against 4 opponents. Learn to block effectively.

Wandering Assassin 10
K.O. opponent with over 20 types of weapons. You should get this by playing story mode with each character or general play over time.

Repel All Blades 30
Win perfect 30 times. - this is an overall 30, not in a row.

Numeric God 20
Measure the two passages of time and win. (end time must be equal numbers - random how you get this)

Two Cannot Exist Together 20
Exhaust each other's power. - a double KO (both of you KO'd) - This is best and easiest with Yoshimitsu who has a suicide attack.
1.Go to Arcade mode stage one Versus Talim (close range fighter).
2.Spend the first part of the round lowering her health to just a tiny bit remaining.
3.Deliberately sustain hits so that your own health is low.
4.Make sure you are as far away from her so that she will likely run at you
5.Whilst she dithers (before she runs at you) press Back+Y+B to turn around - (Triangle+ Circle)
6.With careful timing just as she's run at you and literally touching you press Back+X+B - (Square+ Circle)
7.Double K.O.

An easy mistake to make, and in case anyone has a similar issue, the numbers on the left indicate how much is used and the numbers on the right indicate how many you have spent. If the numbers on the left are red then you've gone over your limit. If they are whie then you are good to go.

damn, I just feel like vomiting some of that lame comment when you complete story mode: and he finally found what he was looking for, and was happy...

this guide is totally awesome, I really admire your work here rob, and I think I'm talking on every narrow minded/casual gamers(who cant figure out what those riddles mean in the beginning of each floor) behalf when I say: thanks, you're the man!

and I wanted to add something too, I followed your advice on floor 24; creating an astaroth type character with maxed out attack...
yeah...its funny see, I failed to manage the combo you mentioned, but it ended up with a huge GB attack which actually did the trick too!
I think its backwards once, then press backwards simultaneously as you press B (triangle). The character raises its axe and swings a vertical chop forward whilst covered in flame!
and the good part is: it can not be blocked :>

also, I hope you could give some advice on fighting with amy online, I always face raphael or mitsurugi when picking amy, and I really tend to get beaten:< I wonder if there is any coherent closure after doing the all so imba backwards+A side spin slice, because its almost the only move (that I know of) which is fairly efficient online...only that it lacks closure....

I'm not up to speed on Amy, however like my main dude Yun-Seong she has a feint poke move which although doesn't have as much range as Yun-Seong's, is still good for those characters moving towards you. I think it's tap back back then Y. She'll step back a little before lunging forwards with a poke (which also stuns I believe). These feint type attacks fool a lot of people online (as long as your timing is good and you don't over use the move to become predictable).

Amy has very fast poke attacks, although not so damaging, so if you're good at side stepping, and mixing up the high to low attacks you'll often be able to pin an opponent.

thanks a bunch:3 and its very true, if I ever get some coherrence in my online play, I might win by feinting constantly and hitting low!
I'd like to ask you something else: which character did you fight with to pull off five just inputs, also, whom you prefered to fight against:>

I used a Taki clone to do the Just Impacts although this is incredibly easy when you have MASTER IMPACT skill equipped. As stated in the guide, any stage on Story mode HARD difficulty is the place to get these.

As far as fighting, Cassandra and Sophitia seem the most challenging in terms of CPU AI with Taki and TIRA being close.

Online is a different matter as the scene is mostly dominated by Kilik's, Cervantes, Maxi's and Mitsurugi's the character that seems to mix things up the most in capable hands is Yoshimitsu.

Rob-

thanks for doing this guide! I've used it for Tower of Souls for the last few days... Two things I can think of immediately: the "Looter of the Battlefield" achievement does not require buying every piece of clothing... I just earned it by purchasing all the special equipment (gems and rings and such) that I hadn't unlocked through floor 35 of the Tower, and having the equipment from at least 30 achievements. Before I purchased the final gem, I had just purchased the extra Voldo mask, so maybe you need that, too. Still, I have probably a million worth of male equipment still to buy but got the achievement anyhow.

Also, on floor 32, merely attempting the low grab on a crouching grapple break S player like Voldo gets the chest--I didn't actually grab him.

Yeh I wasn't 100% but I got mine by merely buying the special equipment using Yoda. I'll amend. Thanks.

good tips and guide icon_banana.gif

i only have a question, for the tracsending in the world and history achievement, is necesary buy the equipment pack of 100 MICROSOFT POINTS?, because i bought a lot of equipment and weapons of all characters and the achievement not appeared and i didnt bought the equipment pack of 100 MICROSOFT POINTS icon_help_big.gif , and another question, when i did some treasures of the TOWER OF LOST SOULS it was gold and not items, i thought maybe was because when you bought and you did achievements to unlock equipment, the equipment that you unlocked was some equipment of the treasures, but i dont know exactly the reason icon_bighug.gif

Feebas - if you have already unlocked equipment by gaining honors (you get new items per 5 honors gained) then the chests in the tower will give you money instead. No you do not have to buy the DLC and anyways, the DLC items are free when you enter the items menu. - hehe that would be pretty low if you had to buy them twice!

what are you saying!? you must be incredibly perceptive or have super human senses with 0.1 seconds reaction time if you ever wish to pull this one, I managed four in a row by chance when spamming...closest I ever got

the move is triggered by forward + A/G, if you hit too early the move will be useless and one second will be lost in the motion, and if you hit too late then you simply get beat....this "impeccable" timings really getting on my nerves argh! and the marigins about a quarter second which is a bit more for any ordinary human to handle!

Is there a way to make a custom character with the skeleton head?

Just Impacts.

A lot of people suggest fighting against a slowish character like Astaroth or Rock to time the just impacts. For me it's also a big help to know the basic attack moves of your opponent, thus making the timing much easier and precise. I suggest going into training mode and picking a character that's likely to be the starting character in Arcade or Story mode for your character of choice, and set them to perform the same attack move or two over and over, so that you get the timing right. I assure you, once you've got it mastered it's pretty easy...online however you stand no chance due to the slight latency issues.

Skeleton head.

No I don't think you can get a full blown skeleton head or mask, you'll have to make do with the demon type masks - perhaps they'll bring a skeletal mask out as downloadable content?
