Ubisoft launches new Uplay service

Assassin's Creed II is the first Ubisoft game to untilize Ubisoft's own in game rewards system entitled Uplay where gamers can receive in game bonuses such as extra costumes for completing various tasks in a similar manner to the Achievements system already in place on Xbox 360. However, Uplay points can be stored and used in any Ubisoft game that supports the feature such as the forthcoming Splinter Cell Conviction.

No Splinter Cell Demo with Assassin's Creed 2

After the rather ambiguous Hip Hop Gamer posted news about a Splinter Cell demo with Assassin's Creed 2 it has come to light that there will be no demo associated with the game.

Here�s the official Ubisoft statement regarding the SC:C demo speculation:

We�ve seen much speculation about the Splinter Cell Conviction leaflet that is inserted in the US version of the Assassin�s Creed II game box and received many questions about what the code in this leaflet unlocks. Without revealing specifics, we can confirm that the download you get is NOT the Splinter Cell Conviction demo, contrary to some of the rumors out there. Any information you�ve seen or read suggesting otherwise is unfounded and should be considered as pure speculation.

Super Street Fighter IV will not have character unlocks

One of the main complaints Street Fighter IV is that you have to unlock extra characters by beating the game over and over again.

Capcom is eliminating this process for the upcoming sequel, Super Street Fighter IV, as all characters will be unlocked from the beginning. Seth Killian, the Community Manager for Capcom, made the announcement in the 1UP Podcast show:

Rumour: MW2 Single-Player Campaign DLC

Craig Fairbrass who voiced Ghost and Gaz in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has let slip that a game focusing on the former may well happen.

Speaking to That VideoGame Blog, he related �in this game I'm now voicing a guy called Ghost, who now just got a spin-off comic of his own and they're talking about another little game to go with it. So, I'm quite excited about it. It's grown and grown and grown.�

Infinity Ward was not considering single player story based episodes in addition to multiplayer maps and other extensions of the online experience. But it may happen.

Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter pricing causing outrage

Microsoft recently announced that the N network support is coming to Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter, which retails for $99.99.

The announcement sent off a number of complaints on the comments section of the Major Nelson blog

Most of the hatred is directed solely on the price tag which comes in at a hefty $99 (About �56).

Grossing around �48 million in day one sales in the UK, Activision's Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has broken the previous entertainment record set by the Mamma Mia DVD release which had previously held the record for the top opening week ever by taking �25.8 million.

London, United Kingdom 16 November 2009 � Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has continued to set new records within the entertainment industry. Impressive first day UK sales of an estimated 1.23 million units (grossing around �48 million) have gone on to reach 1.78 million units (grossing �67.4 million) one week after release � the highest grossing figures of any entertainment launch in history.

According to figures just released by ELSPA/GfK-ChartTrack, sales of Modern Warfare 2 surpassed the Mamma Mia DVD release which had previously held the record for the top opening week ever by taking �25.8 million. Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper allows you to take on the role of one of the most popular detectives of all time. It's 1888 London, and a series of particularly horrible murders takes place in the Whitechapel district of the East End of London where atrociously mutilated prostitutes' bodies are found. The police are unable to find a serious lead and the murders increase, creating paranoia and fear among the citizens. Sherlock Holmes starts looking for clues in the dark and sinister alleys of Whitechapel in order to follow the macabre trail of the one the press now calls Jack the Ripper. During a frightening adventure, Sherlock Holmes will try to bring out the true identity and the motives of the one who hides behind this scary alias.

Four years is a long time but today Microsoft has announced that the benchmark console sales of 10 million has been reach in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). With the launch of Facebook, Twitter, Zune and Last.fm on the cards next week as well as next year's Natal, things are looking good for Xbox 360 owners with more joining the fold daily.

7 million day one global sales for Modern Warfare 2

It looks like Activision's Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is set to enter the records books as day one worldwide sales have surpassed 7 million mark according to VGChartz. Week one sales of GTA IV came in at 5.92 million last year but Modern Warfare 2 looks to surpass this considerably.

Some more stats.

Around 55% of sales are on Xbox 360, 33% on PS3 and 12% on PC.
over 4.2 million units were sold in the Americas (3.7 million USA), 1.2 million in the UK and 350,000 each in France and Germany.

Things are looking good for Activision and Infinity Ward.

It's official Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has broken the UK sales record for first day sales topping the 631,000 units of GTA IV. Modern Warfare 2 garnered a very impressive 1.23 million units according to ChartTrack.

London, United Kingdom 11 November 2009 � Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 did not fail to live up to the expectations as one of the most eagerly anticipated videogames releases of all time. Initial first day UK sales - November 10 - reveal that Modern Warfare 2 sold an estimated 1.23 million units, grossing around �47 million. According to figures just released by ELSPA/GfK-ChartTrack, this almost doubles the previous record held by Grand Theft Auto IV which sold an estimated 631,000 units, grossing �27.2 million on its first day of release (April 29, 2008).

Medal of Honour to go modern?

MCV is reporting that a reliable source has indicated that next year's Medal of Honour release will ditch the World War II setting and move into modern times, much like Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare. There are no other details mentioned other than a tentative release window of Spring 2010.

It's about time too as the paths of World War II have been well and truly trodden and moving into more familiar times offers a welcome change. With Medal of Honour Airborne not performing as well as expected, hopefully EA can put the series back on the map with its new change of direction.

Modern Warfare 2 Spec Ops DLC a possibility

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling speaking to MTV has commented that if there is a demand for more Spec Ops missions then there could be some added via downloadable content in the future.

�Spec Ops is a great mode that can be expanded if we want,� said Bowling who went on to say �If everyone�s clamouring for more Spec Ops, then that�s something we�re gonna look at.�

This will be one DLC pack worth picking up if it comes to fruition. Fingers Crossed.

Natal launch details revealed?

According to trade publication MCV some Natal launch details have been leaked from a supposedly secret Microsoft tour. The publication reveals that Natal will launch globally in November 2010 with some 5 million units available. There will also be 14 games and a price point below �50.

It sounds good but quite the wait, but considering Microsoft are viewing the Natal launch like that of a new console it will be interesting to see what these 14 games will entail, as ultimately it's these which will see the hardware to the gaming public. Either way, a year is a long time to wait, but hopefully Microsoft will be keen to showcase what's possible with the hardware to not only entice gamers but developers as well.
