There are a total of 8 letters hidden throughout the game, spanning 8 levels. They are mostly out in the open and you'll be prompted to pick them up when close by. The letters give Violette some background information on the guards and people and if you go into the menu screen you'll not only be able to read it yourself, but also hear Violette reading them aloud. Collecting all 8 letters nets you the Curiosity achievement worth 30 points.
Please Note: In order to get the Curiosity achievement you must collect all of the letters in a single playthrough and if you reload an earlier save it writes over any progress that you may have already made.

LETTER LOCATION SCREENSHOTS
The Lost - Fuel Storage
The first letter is located in the room just after the dinning room with the radio. It's on a desk on the right side.
Death Of The Butcher - Crypt
The second letter is located in the room with the three guards and the altar with paintings. The letter is just before the steps leading to your exit door.
Leave A Light On - Docks
The third letter is located in the room with the officer and the desks as you infiltrate the docks - the building with the open windows you can climb through. It's on the desk at the far back of the room.
The Third Man - Sewers
The forth letter is located in the sewers on top of a crate next to a ladder and a collectible. You'll spot this earlier but will have to make your way around to the ladder first.
The Third Man - Ghetto
The fifth letter is located in the room you've opened after grabbing the key from the officer who patrols the area. It's on a small table.
The Third Man - Prison
The sixth letter is located in one of the open cells on the 1st floor - at the top of the ground to first floor stairway.
Le Boeuf
The seventh letter is located in the basement of the boathouse.
Fade To Grey - Hospital
The Eigth letter is located in the room with the dead body and the cupboard you must hide in. It's mission critical and you can't miss it.
