MERCS MODE GUIDE

GENERAL TIPS

* ALWAYS go for ALL the extra time at the beginning of the level. If you don't, running low on time can spoil your combo.

* Always reload when you think you're safe from getting hit. Don't reload in the middle of a crowd.

* Try to use your strongest crowd control melee attacks when you can. For example, Chris's 'straight' punch is good for smashing alot of enemies.

* Don't be shy to use your munitions. Grenades and ammo are plentiful. For magnum class weapons, feel free to pop off a round whenever you fancy. There's alot of magnum rounds around.

* Always keep at least 1 healing item at the ready when playing alone.

* If you don't have the right weapons or enough ammo to fight harder enemies (e.g: The Executioner, Chainsaw Majini, Giant Majini), avoid them. Run away until you think you're able to fight them. They'll chase you until they die so you can't get rid of them any other way. Try to lure them into a trap (if there is one, such as floor spikes), flash grenade them, then activate the trap and kill them instantly.

* Make good use of combo times. Get them AFTER getting all of the extra time.

* Flash grenades kill the parasitic enemies (the ones that pop out from the heads, the flying ones, the little spider-like ones and the big walking ones) instantly.

* Chickens are your friends! They're not in the levels just for your amusement. Killing them adds to your combo (I think) and also gives you healing eggs.

CHARACTERS

Chris Redfield (BSAA)

Starting items:

M92F handgun
Ithaca M37 shotgun
Hand grenade
First Aid spray
Shotgun shells
Handgun rounds

Strategy

The beginner Chris is one of the best characters. His shotgun is great for crowd control and the M92F isn't too bad either. He also has strong melee attacks.

The best way to use Chris is to stockpile lots of hand grenades and shotgun shells. Use your M92F to set enemies up for melee attacks and use the shotgun on big enemies or crowds.

Chris Redfield (Safari)

Starting items:

Sig P226 handgun
Benelli M3 Super 90 shotgun
2x Rocket launcher
Handgun rounds
Shotgun shells

Strategy

This alternate Chris is harder to use than the starter one. His shotgun is more powerful but doesn't hold as many shells. The P226 is stronger than the M92F but doesn't hold as many rounds either.

The best way of using this Chris is to use your handgun more than your shotgun. Use the handgun to set enemies up for melee attacks. Only use the shotgun on big stuff or crowds. Reload it whenever possible to keep it ready. Use the RPG's against big enemies or deadly enemies.

Chris Redfield (S.T.A.R.S)

Starting items:

SG556 assault rifle
S&W M29
Grenade launcher w/Nitrogen rounds
Machine gun ammo
Magnum ammo

Strategy

This is the hardest version of Chris to use. His SG556 is good for crowd control, but he lacks a shotgun for knocking back enemies. The S&W M29 is great against the big enemies so they aren't a big problem.

The best way of using this Chris is to use the SG556 as your main gun with the grenade launcher and nitrogen rounds for freezing big crowds, then smashing them to bits with melee attacks. Use the magnum revolver against large foes or enemies in a line. Shooting enemies in the knees or the head with the SG556 is great for setting up a string of melee attacks.

Sheva Alomar (BSAA)

Starting items:

M92F handgun
VZ61 machine gun
Dragunov SVD sniper rifle
First Aid spray
Handgun ammo
Machine gun ammo

Strategy

Sheva can be tricky to use. Her VZ61 machine gun is good against crowds but it's attack power isn't as good as the other machine guns. It does however have a big ammunition capacity. The Dragunov is her most powerful weapon.

The best way of using this Sheva is to use the VZ61 for crowds or maintaining combos, while using the Dragunov SVD against big enemies. Don't be afraid to fire fast with it to kill the big stuff, or even to keep a combo going. Ammunition for all guns is plentiful.

Sheva Alomar (Clubbin')

Starting items:

AK74 assault rifle
Jail Breaker shotgun
S75 sniper rifle
Machine gun ammo
Shotgun ammo
Rifle ammo

Strategy

This version of Sheva is great against the weaker enemies and crowds, but for bigger enemies she can't kill them fast. The S75 is her strongest weapon.

The best way of using this Sheva is to use the AK74 against regular enemies and as always, the shotgun against crowds. The Jail Breaker has a good ammo capacity also. When the big enemies come for you, get some distance and shoot them with the S75.

Sheva Alomar (Tribal)

Starting items:

Longbow
Grenade launcher
Incendiary grenade
Flash grenade
First Aid spray

Strategy

This is the best version of Sheva. Not only does her Longbow kill most Majini in one arrow, but it has infinite arrows as well as standard. You will find alot of varying ammunition for the grenade launcher in the level so take it when you see it. One thing to note though is the Longbow has no laser, so you will have to get some practice in with it.

The best way of using this Sheva is to use the grenade launcher and incendiary grenades on crowds. Use exploding ammo on the big enemies. The longbow will kill alot of stuff quickly and is good against big enemies as well should you run out of grenades or grenade launcher ammo.

Jill Valentine (BSAA)

Starting items:

Px4 handgun
H&K MP5 machine gun
Flash grenades
First Aid spray
Machine gun ammo
Handgun ammo

Strategy

This version of Jill is one of the best on the game. The MP5 kills big enemies relatively quickly, wipes out crowds and the Px4 is fantastic for headshots. It has a very high critical % chance.

The best way to use this Jill is to use the pistol to rack up lots of headshots and use the MP5 against the big enemies and crowds. The MP5 holds 150 rounds and ammo is frequent, so feel free to use full auto. Jill also starts out with 5 flash grenades. Use these frequently against any parasitic enemies you come across to get rid of them instantly.

Jill Valentine (Battle suit)

Starting items:

VZ61
H&K PSG-1
Hand grenades
1x Double herb
Machine gun ammo
Rifle rounds

Strategy

This version of Jill is harder to use than the other one. Try not to use full auto frequently with the VZ61 because if you run out of ammo, it'll get hard.

The best way to use this Jill is to use the VZ61 to wipe out crowds and individual enemies. It has a big ammo capacity of 300. The PSG-1 will kill big enemies quickly, so use that against them. Feel free to make use of your hand grenades also whenever you fancy.

Albert Wesker (Midnight)

Starting items:

H&K P8
S&W M500 magnum revolver
Hand grenades
Proximity mines
Magnum ammo
Handgun ammo

Strategy

As cool as Wesker is, this version of him is hard to use. His S&W M500 magnum revolver will destroy any enemy very quickly, but the H&K P8 isn't very strong. He lacks crowd control except for hand grenades and proximity mines.

The best way of using this Wesker is melee attacks. Use the P8 to set enemies up for melee attacks, then smash them. Wesker is very strong and can knock down alot of enemies at once, plus his Windfall axe kick against downed enemies is very strong also. Use the M500 to kill anything that gets in the way and set up proximity mines as traps in places you think are good.

Important note: Both versions of Wesker have a special ability. He can sprint at a ridiculous speed at the cost of a slight bit of health. Simply hold the left thumb stick in and up and click the right thumb stick as well.

Albert Wesker (S.T.A.R.S)

Starting items:

Wesker's Samurai Edge handgun
Lightning Hawk magnum
Hydra shotgun
Handgun ammo
Shotgun ammo

Strategy

My personal favourite character. This version of Wesker has the perfect weapon set. His own Samurai Edge, which I believe is unique to this Wesker only (not in the story mode either), deals ALOT of damage and also has a great critical % chance on headshots. His Lightning Hawk magnum destroys big enemies fast and the Hydra triple barreled sawn off shotgun can be drawn and fired fast, clears crowds quickly and deals massive damage.

The best way of using this Wesker is to use the Samurai Edge to kill regular enemies quickly, whilst using the shotgun against crowds or big enemies (works better than all other shotguns) and the Lightning Hawk against the big enemies. It will kill them very quickly. The only downside of this Wesker is that he does not start with a healing item, so make sure you find one pronto. His melee attacks are still devastating so use them when you get the chance. It only takes 2-3 shots from the Samurai Edge to kill one regular Majini so you won't get much of a chance.
